public drunkenness

It is far from accepted. I hate walking around town in the day with drunks on the street. I hate seeing them mingling in the street when parents are out with their children.

Night time I think it's fair enough, Pubs and clubs are open and people pub crawl. Its day time drunkenness that is the problem. Yeah I dont get why the time of day makes a difference but it does, Possibly down to the fact children are present

By Daytime Drunks, you are obviously referring to alcoholics. While they are a problem and it's good when the Police move them on, they don't really cause much trouble in the grand scheme of things.

Contrast that with people out binge drinking who aren't 'alcoholics'. They create noise way past socially acceptable hours, get into fights, pee outside shops and residences, are sick on the streets, create a real mess with litter (ever seen the state of a busy town after kicking out time where there are lots of takeaways?).

Obviously not everybody does these things, but they are a much greater hinderence than a few drunks are during the day.

Really the vast majority of northern Europe, binge drinking happens everywhere but in most places in southern Europe 'getting drunk' isn't the same as 'night out'

Thats because they are more cultured than us. A 'night out' is a nice meal, followed by a moderate amount of alcohol in the company of friends.

Over here, it's straight onto the binge drinking until you are nearly sick, then waking up the next morning with absolutely no recollection of the night before and a blinding headache that ruins the next day.

When I was sampling the nightlife in the US I couldn't believe the difference. No sign of trouble ever. People were a lot friendlier, no-one looking at you for a fight. Just out to have a good time.

Last night i saw a guy walking down the road having a pee ... he then slipped on the ice and landed flat on his back and pee'd all over him self. He looked like a fountain.

As long as people aren't causing significant hassel to another, I don't see anything wrong with it. I don't have a hernia when someone goes down the road shouting 'wheeeey' and niether should anyone else.

Completely agree.

Also, the only time my uni mates have ever been arrested at night for D&D are cases where they've got aggressive.

One of my mates spent a night in the cells for drunk and incapable. He went to the bar to buy a beer, and stood looking at his wallet. He couldn't remember how to pay

So getting woken up at 2:30-3am in the morning quite often by somebody coming home totally wasted singing at the top of their voice is fine with you?

Are there any countries besides UK, Ireland and Russia where public drunkenness is socially acceptable?

I hope you are joking.

New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, America, France, Turkey, Greece, Crete, Cyprus, Holland, Czech Republic, Canada, Spain, Mexico, Cuba, Fiji...

All these places being drunk is socially acceptable (or at least I have been with people and locals). The only place where people looked like it was frowned upon is Singapore

Holland, Spain, France, Israil, Turkey, Laos, Spain - These places it seems more socially acceptable than others. Parts of Laos sell opium, mushrooms etc in the bars, so seems pretty normal. Amsterdam sells cannabis and used to sell mushrooms, some of the clubs have a policy of 1 ecstasy pill allowed but any more will be confiscated. Ibiza you have people walking around like zombies at 10am from nights before and people drinking constantly. When I went to France when I was 10 there were locals at a bar we went in who got hammered with my dad and uncle then biked home...

Top post, it's not just the UK, the government is just obsessed with cranking down on binge drinking but it happens all around the world apart from places like dubai and india.
