The paranoia about this alert I’m seeing. I’m so used to this system abroad. It’s such a non-event and I’m not sure why people are getting in hysterics over it.

Same people that probably don't bat an eyelid over sending pictures of their bits to that sort at number 69 and bank details to Iconnia the Russian beauty, but recoil in horror and scream invasion of privacy when a government wants to send something that may save their life's.
Tomorrow's headlines will consist of "Shock" "Awful sound" "Put Dave right off" "I'm on night shifts" "I was scared"

A friend has put a tiny percussive device in an old phone wired so he can set it off from a transmitter in his pocket. He's leaving it on the bar at his local and setting it off when the alert is sent.

Apparently it's very loud and gives off lots of smoke :)

I have made sure I have some cash on me for bail money for him....

Turned mine off a long time ago, don’t see much point of the system in the UK. Don’t get massive tsunamis, deadly earthquakes, tornados or volcanic eruptions. Only thing we ever usually see is the odd flooding and that's always in the same areas and you can see that coming.

How do you go on when people ring you and you don't want to speak to them?
I just press the OFF button.

Go to settings and turn off emergency. It has been uploaded to all phones. Just like COVID tracker.
I wonder what else they uploaded on our phones ,,

Why do you need to turn this off when you just press a similar button?

Due to working nights etc. I have my phone setup with Do Not Disturb 24x7, suppress unknown calls and only important contacts will cause my phone to make a noise. Personally not bothered about a system like this as long as it isn't abused for mundane things - I removed one work related app because too many managers we using the emergency ability to override notification settings just to send any old thing.
