Pubs, and under 18

tell you what though fellas it aint half as good getting a pint at say 21 rather than 17. It used to make me feel so proud getting served like I was a real man!

Nobody is ever going to be arrested for trying to buy a drink in a pub. Even if they phoned up the police they'd probably never turn up - and are you just meant to sit there waiting for the police to turn up to arrest you? I wouldn't like to physically restrain someone until the police arrive...

I've seen this happen (thats what they where charged with atleast) because they became biligerent (sp pls) and wouldn't leave the local, they didn't realise that there was the local PC there too.

Yup they'd be breaking the law, and yet people can still make a thread or a post about how they done it on this forum, where as if I made a thread say about getting round copy protection it'd be deleted straight away.

Oh the joys of double standards in society. :p

true

I ask that a Don or UB please close this thread and make sure that no more are created about illigal activitys as seems to be the rules of these forums.

Heh true I suppose. But the original post was more about the actual law, of being in pubs at under 18, not really to do wit drinking ;) But yeh, ok.

I'm personally not fussed by your thread or others like this.

But take the last line of your first post with the smiley at the end. If somebody else made a thread about bit torrent or something similar to that, and then added something like "any good warez sites ;) " then it would get blocked straight away.

They were looking for information on how to get hold of illegal material, and if your last line was taken seriously then you'd be looking for information on how to break the law by being served in a pub under 18.

I'm not pointing you out, and personally I don't really care about the whole thing, just really commenting on societys perception of law breaking and what is acceptable.

Still only 6 iirc, my pub dont allow children in after 6 and we serve food till 11

Hmm, our bar/restaurant lets children stay in with parents till 8pm after which time they are asked to leave. (Bear in mind I'm living in Scotland so perhaps different laws regarding Children)

They are however not allowed in any part of the bar, accompanied by an adult or not.

Now I'm not 100% sure as each pub tends to have its own rules, for example the local spoons can have children sitting near the door in the 'family' area until 6pm. Other bars don't allow it full stop, food or no food, and some bars operate like us

As you have said that in the restaurant bit,I did say the rules change for private clubs (which was meant to include restaurants)

Awww thanks BS ;) *hugs*

On topic as far as I know if children are out with family and eating I think 16 year olds+ can drink? Otherwise no, and if you look under the limit then you should always carry ID with you ;) I will probably be carrying it for the rest of my life at this rate!

There's one thing that's guaranteed to make you seem older.
Confidence.
Look them in the eye, act like it never even entered your mind that they'd ID you, strike up a conversation with them, "long shift eh? *sympathetic smile*", kinda thing... makes ALL the difference.

Yeh, but that would've never happened if the person just took the refusal to serve and then moved on - it was just because they wouldn't leave.

It is the landlord's discretion as to whether they allow unaccompanied minors on the premises.

Myself, I've been pubbing & clubbing since the tender age of 14, though I am weathered and craggy, and generally just 'old' looking for my age. It could explain why my partner is 5 years my senior too :p
