Why don't we try a simple one?
How many people are killed by cars per year per 100,000 cars in the UK?
How many people are by bikes killed per year per 100,000 cycles in the UK?
OR since a lot of people are complaining about the reckless criminal damage caused by so many cyclists, maybe one of these people could come up with a figure about the total value of damages caused by cyclists and compare it to cars.
I'll start.
Uncle and aunts house, £50,000 worth of damage caused by a car speeding, failing to negotiate a bend and crashing into their front room. Demolished the entire room, caused structural issues to the house and destroyed their garden.
This doesn't take into account the psychological issues that my aunt now suffers.
Driver slammed into the side of me after failing to stop for a junction. My car written off, loss of earnings and medical fees £12000.
Me in car, hit black ice, spun off and demolished a wall and wrote off my car £8000
Father hit by car whilst going around round-about on bike, bike destroyed, broken spine, broken ribs, two broken arms, broken collar bone, broken jaw, broken leg. Over £100,000 in medical bills paid for by drivers insurance.
Family members having damage caused by cyclists = £0
Damaged caused by family members that cycle = £0
Now I admit that my family is only one small sample of the UK population but with extended family counting for nigh on 100 people (grand parents are all irish catholics) I'd say it's a statistically significant sample non the less.
