Well looks like my partner has broken my pups leg. He said he put her outside and closed the door hard and she screamed and started leaping. Fuming to say the least as I knew she was high energy and been telling him to walk the dog for the past few days when it wasn't raining but that never happened.

Anyway.... Also told him to get insurance which he didn't! I should have done it myself. Only myself to blame on that one. Went to vets today he said it looks broken but wont know for sure until an xray. Just paid £50 for some injections to make her drowsy and will have to pay a few hundred for x ray tomorrow.

He said if it is broken the bill could run up to a few thousand. I honestly wont be able to afford this so just wondering if vets normally have a payment plan. Its obviously the first thing ill ask tomorrow if the worst news comes back. But if it is and I cant afford.... What then?

The only thing I'm getting from this post if you aren't responsible enough to be an owner....

Well, your partner sounds like a total moron for a start.

Vets do often do payment plans. Get a new bloke too.

Our local vets do plans. And when you do get insurance get decent cover.

We had an £11k vet bill for a cat last year.

if pursuing payment from him then it sounds like this could be an entertaining episode of whatever the UK version of Judge Judy is called

I'm assuming the partner is 'the girl'/camp one in the relationship?

Wow... That's high.... I'm now dreading the worst. I'm so fuming right now.... I've had dogs since I was 5, from lerchers German shepherd, border collies. Given him so much advice .... But this is the result of not being listened to.

It's not likely to be 11k. From a bit of google-fu and past experience you're looking at about 2k max.

A few thousand?!

My last dog had an operation for a torn cruciate ligament and it was about £600. I don't really know how that stacks up against a broken leg though in the world of vets fees...just seems a lot.

Do you rely on them to walk the dog? (your post implies they're pretty incompetent). Also you've implied the dog only gets walked when it's not raining by your partner ?

If its between £1000-2k that's affordable ... But any higher gonna struggle. Vet said as its a puppy its more complicated and being on the paw there is lots of little joints so its the worst place to be broken.

Looking for solutions not to be judged. Being a young pup she gets walked Saturday and Sunday and then I walk her 3 days during the week. I've missed 1 day when we had a thunderstorm... Is that good enough for you. The 2 other days my partner is supposed to walk her.

As a fellow pup owner I feel so bad for you. Must be horrible. A quick Google and I came across this. Offers some advice.

We had a pup a few years back who died really suddenly - literally fell ill and died inside 24 hours. He spent the last few hours of his life at Fitzpatrick Referrals (aka Supervet on TV) but never recovered from his anaesthetic which was given so they could perform an MRI scan. Even though we had him insured the exact cause of death couldn't be determined and because of that we didn't get a full payout. We had to pay over £2K.

Just a reminder insurance companies don't always deliver.

You're not being judged, that useless sod is.

It sounds like your partner probably doesn't really want a dog, so why you're complaining that he's not been doing as he is told, I don't know....If you're going to choose to buy an animal, then make sure you can look after it yourself.

As for a solution - our vet does payment plans for those without insurance. Domo is on the money though, there are various organisations that may be able to help you if you cant afford treatment.

Most importantly....make sure you stop whatever you are doing right now and go and sort out insurance for the dog! It's obviously too late to help with this situation, but you don't want to be in the same place the next time the pup needs a vet.

This.

Sounds like a *****. He's broken a puppy's leg and couldn't be bothered to walk it or arrange insurance prior to that.

That could have long lasting damage on the poor dog.

Assuming you both wanted a dog I'd be asking him to foot the bill.

jeez, a lot of critical comments on here - accidents do happen! Catching a dogs leg in a door was very unlikely done on purpose!

A lot of vets do have a payment plan system, does a credit check and the like, ask them, they are normally quite likely to want to help you pay, its a business after all - I would look around and get another quote, some hike thier prices assuming you are insured.

Surely responsible enough to tell someone to do something several times for several days, such as take a dog for a walk, but never bothered to walk the dog yourself!

Poor dog.
Why did you bother with a puppy if you were not prepared to walk it or pay for it?
