Thanks Matt I’ll have a look at this tonight.I've been using PBO2 Tuner to run a -30 Curve Optimizer on all cores of my 5800X3D and it has brought power usage and temperatures down significantly. Debug.7z - Google Drive
I went from a 3600 to a 5800X3D and found my 120mm Cooler Master AIO couldn't really handle it. I went air cooling this time for simplicity and bought a Deepcool AK620. Plenty of reviews on YouTube of it. Very easy to install and keeps it under 80c under full cinebench loads, most of the time mid 60s when gaming and 30-40c idle. It's also pretty quiet and doesn't cost much, I got mine for £50.Hi there,
I'm a bit of a novice PC builder and just need a bit of advice on an upgrade please.
I'm upgrading from a Ryzen 5 3600 to the 5800X3D, it's my first "expensive" CPU I've owned and believe it is going to be a bit of a jump up in terms of heat. I currently have no fans or cooler other than the default that came with the original 3600 CPU and case fan.
Would anyone mind having a look at my set up and recommending a cooler? any and maybe some extra fans? I've got zero experience in this area as I've always managed without.
PSU: 750W Seasonic Focus GX 750 80PLUS Gold, Single Rail, Fully Modular, 62A, 120mm Fan, ATX PSU
Case: Fractal Design Meshify C TG Dark Tint, Mid Tower Computer Chassis
Motherboard: Asus PRIME X570-PRO
Graphics: RTX 3080 Founders
RAM: L HyperX FURY 16GB (1x16GB) 3200MHz DDR4
Bonus if you're feeling really helpful - is it worth upgrading the RAM?
THANK YOU!
Amazing. Thank you for this. I got the same results running the -30 curve. Is that with the 5800X3D? If so that's decent tbh as they run warm under heavy all core loads but much cooler for gaming.

Using PBO Tuner 2 I brought stock CB23 temps down from 83c to 69c and performance went up using -30 on all cores. YMMV.
It's most odd having such a fast CPU and reducing the already low power draw by 25W or so for no loss in performance.

Haha I'm back! I forgot and then remembered that I had made an account all that time ago.6 posts in 11 years, impressive lurking
It's not a huge difference but DDR4 is pretty cheap these days, I would add another 16GB 3200mhz stick to run 32GB dual channel. It's kind of imbalanced to be running a 5800X3D and 3080 with 1 stick of RAM and having 32GB RAM gives a bit of extra headroom. The difference between 1 stick and 2 is bigger than dual vs single rank (which I would agree isn't really worth worrying about much). Ideally one would sell the 16GB and add a matched pair but that's not strictly necessary,I wouldnt stress tooooo much about having a single RAM module and not running in dual channel config - it does hurt your performance but moving from a Ryzenb 3600 to a 5800X3D is an insane jump in performance.
Gaming would be the reason to get the 5800X3D. It is the fastest and most efficient gaming CPU at this time.Out of interest why the 5800x 3d over a 5900x which is more available
I think I've decided to wait until Zen 4 to see the lay of the land then. I'll stick with my 3900X for now, if the 5800X3D were readily available then this may have been rather more difficult. This makes me tempted to grab 5800X3D again. My 5900X is perfectly up to the task right now but I plan to keep this system for at least another 3 years and I'm certain the differences between the two CPUs will be a lot more apparent in a couple of years and a couple of gens of gfx cards ahead.
But on the other hand DDR5 will drop in price and the £130 the X3D would cost after selling the 5900X would eventually cover a new mobo, or the next tier of gfx card. I may see how much money I have left at the end of the month after my family holiday and see what's what.
Currently have the 5900X scoring 9400 in CB23 as I've had to disable the second CCX and set max clocks to 3.6GHz while I await a replacement AIO pump. By the end of the three weeks it'll take to arrive running it at full whack will feel like an upgrade in itself!
The 5800X3D seems to be an undervolting monster according to some sites so if you have problems with temps then thats where to start

Default settings, only thing I changed was -30 on each core. What settings are you using on the 'limits' tab? Pity it has to be done manually on each boot
