Purchasing Advice!

I would add a bigger car is going to be much nicer to do lots of miles in. Just because somebody you know did it in a rabbit hutch doesn't mean it was comfortable, or indeed as comfortable as doing it in something nicer. It's all relative of course. But there's no arguing (or is there?) that generally bigger cars are better suited to doing lots of miles than stupid small cars.

Also re "Don't want to be seen in a mondeo". I don't know, I see blokes in small cars and think "oh". But then I have a not-small car, so :/ Plus i'm a silly person.

I'm digging this back up as I started today and really do, need a) more economical b) bigger car, with cup holder lol.

I like the look of Vectra CDTi SRi's and Astra CDTi SRi's.

Golf's seem to be really expensive, even MK4s

Another one i'm considering is a Fabia vRS.

Still liking the Grande Punto Jtd though!

What about 3 series/A3??

Are you still insisting on a new car for the warranty side of things?

I am a Vauxhall fanboy but I would never go with a brand new Vectra/Astra as you may as well throw money down the drain.

I have been looking at 320d and A3 2.0 DTI and they seem reasonably priced for what you get.

Yes but Fox this is going to replace my personal car too.

Mate nobody really cares what car you drive, I don't know why so many people are so bothered about what others might think - most of the people you know won't give a stuff if you have a Skoda or an Audi. So just buy the car you like thats the best for the job in hand.

I hardly bother to recommend these anymore becuase it's not worth the backlash from the OcUK idiot club but really a Mondeo TDCi is the textbook example of the best car for this job. You could even get an ST TDCi if you wanted it to look good.

I do like the Fabia vRS. I'd have one of those now, never mind needing one for work.

Pro's

Good MPG
Decentish Performance
Cheap insurance
Good build quality

Con's

Poor handling
Issues with reliabillity (seen a few cases, not too worried)

How much for an ST TDCi?

I thought the MPG on TDCi's was mid 40's?

I'd not want to do 30k a year in a Fabia. It's a little city car, ideal for bimbling to Tesco or parking in town. It's not a long distance car. You need to be careful with it becuase it's the most over-rated car in the world, if you went internet-opinion of it you'd think it was some sort of amazing 70mpg high performance super fun amazing handling hot hatch that's refined and cruises well. It's none of this.

The Mondeo ST TDCi's seem to be £8k-£10 though:(

Meanwhile earning money...

Only because he had access to another van, but that's irrelevant as I was merely trying to point out that buying brand new isn't guaranteed to be trouble free. :)

Get a Seat Leon then instead? Or another of the cheaper uglier versions of the same car from the VAG group.

The Toledo always used to offer good VFM, a bit drab though. :p

Don't think you'd get a Leon Cupra TDI at this budget would you, just an SE?
