I know some will dismiss the idea but keep an open mind. Our bathroom needs to be redone and the cost of re-tiling especially in anything other than the cheapest white ones is really high.
We're also not fans of only a small bit of tiling say above the sink and bath and want the whole thing covered properly. I recently found Plastic wall panels and they are a lot cheaper, look great, can even fake the look of tiles if wanted and no annoying grout but are they any good?

I have similar in my bathroom (was installed by the last owner) and I hate it, god knows what state the walls are behind it all as there are so many cracks and gaps water can get through as its not been sealed properly, I cannot wait to have the money to remove and renovate the bathroom.

Looks ok from the video!

Yeah that's what I was thinking. At first I thought it was just for showers but now I see it can be used for the whole room and the prices make it very tempting as nice tiles cost a fortune.

So it's just not been installed properly?

It looks easy enough to do myself but I'm an idiot and have messed up even the most simple DIY jobs so we'd have it done professionally.

More vids.

I think I need to see how it looks for myself and cost it up.

they do look cheap and nasty imo, cant beat normal tiles

Do they, have you seen them up close?

I haven't seen them in person but the price of real tiles is too high and I can't bear to do with grout again.

I'm trying to find a London showroom so I can go have a look but they look alright in the vids.

This stuff has a place in something like a caravan but for home it would look crap and I can't see it being durable.

They flex a little when you press on them and sound hollow

I'd try and find some displays and see what you think first

I'm a bit worried about durability too but as for looks have you actually seen it or are you assuming it must look crap because it's PVC? I know there's a lot of snobbery out there but I'm keeping an open mind.

Have you looked at mermaid board?

First I've heard of it. Looks alright but the price is really high £190 quid for a - 1200mm x 2400mm panel.

I have cladding and I rate it. It's really easy to maintain and looks good IMO. All it takes is a wipe with soapy water. I go over mine with a spray and karcher window vac the lot :D

You can get cheap cladding, all the way up to pretty expensive stuff. Some looks nasty, some looks good. It's similar to laminate flooring - it can look awful or good, depending on which you go for.

I've seen people do the bottom half in cladding with a trim piece, and plastered/painted the top.

Get to a showroom and have a look.

Thanks, may I ask which ones you have? I'm thinking even the more expensive cladding is cheaper than the tiles we'd want. Gonna price up all the options anyway, might get a good deal on tiles but it's their installation cost that we also have to factor in.

I don't know tbh. The plumber did it all when I had the bathroom done and i just chose from samples. I had mine done in my first house which needed doing out, so it was done on a budget, so I think it'll be a middle of the road version tbh.

I tiled my bathroom about 5 years ago and I am still happy with the result - However on shower corner the corner isn't 90 degree so shower tray had a bit of a gap at each end - not in corner - I was plagued with a small leak so last September ripped shower out and put up two shower panels - They are travatine colour and fit fine - I had one 1200 x 2.2m and short side 900 x 2.2m

Put long side on first then butt short side up to it - It took a week for me to stick spacers onto tiles to make sure the boards sat square - was worth the work as fit was perfect - Put a new minimal shower cubicle up and works and look fine - Total cost for boards and trim was around £350

Boards are marine ply and 11mm thick

I polish boards with car polish and water just runs off and I also use a Karcher to clear remaining water off then dry with car drying towel.

By way - I looked at those plastic tiles/boards/strips and reminded me of wall covering in loo at Morrisons.

Yeah but you didn't say whether you liked the wall covering in Morrisons loo :p

I can't find a single supplier in the South East at the moment, how can they all be based up north, that's odd isn't it?

I've ordered a sample so I'll make my decision based on that, gonna see how easy it is to damage it too cause that worries me a bit.

Check these guys out international decorative surfaces as they do both the laminated and pvc panels plus they have branches nationally.
