PWM fans - Ticking noise? O.o

To cut a long story short, I have a Corsair Carbide 500R case, under the roof is a XSPC EX240 rad and on the roof is a pair of fans. The fans I had been running were a Scythe Kaze Jyuni 500RPM Slipstream and a Noiseblocker Multiframe S-Series M12-S1. I had these spare (former case fans) when I put the rad in (originally intended for it to be passive) and decided to whack them on as they were silent. I recently decided to upgrade them to PWM ones and bump up my overclock (as the PWM would ensure the fans only got audible during gaming when I would have headphones on).

*However* I bought a pair of Akasa AK-FN059 120mm Ultra Quiet Venom Viper which although inaudiable at low speed from an airflow/motor point made an annoying ticking noise that I could not stand, so having read this was normal via the reviews I then purchased a pair of Noiseblocker BlackSilent Pro Fan PLPS fans and again silent but annoying ticking lol.

Is this a common thing with all PWM fans or just these ones? O.o

My PWM Akasa Apache also ticked at low speed too so I replaced it with a non-PWM fan controlled by my PWM to 3 pin converter.

I just assumed it was bearing noise though. I never checked the fan for ticking on a non PWM control method.

used a 3 pin adapter to connect one of the fans without the PWM wire and no ticking, however as it was running at the full 1500RPM the air movement was annoyingly audible, not sure if the ticking is a PWM thing or just something these two particular types of fans do at their lowest setting, /meh back to using the old quiet ones now.

HURRAH for this thread.

I have another thread on Akasa apache and viper fans making a ticking noise and basically being complete dirt for noise and static pressure.

They all tick and its driving me insane.I bought them a year ago so OCUK would not do anything apart from refund the 3rd fan which was still in warranty.I got to keep the fan even though i wont be using it so i guess they know something is up.They are marketed as silent also which is breaking i dont know how many EU regulations. To be honest OCUK need to remove akasa apache and viper from sale and let akasa sort it out.Im not happy as i was basically ripped off on £50 worth of fans and left with them while Akasa got to keep my money so that is AKASA added to the list alongside MSI for brands no one should ever buy.

Complete rubbish to be honest! And i need new fans that dont tick.SP120 anyone?

They are pretty pants fans, which is strange as a lot of people recommended them at the time I bought mine. I wouldn't have even bothered if it were not for the recommendations as the first Akasa fan I bought was even worse as it was teribly unbalanced and thrummed at anything about 800rpm.

Avoid.

There are much better fans.
