Q6600 @ 3.8ghz - But plenty BSOD's [RESOLVED]

Ok, ive got my quad reasonably stable @ 3.8ghz, in XP im normally good for about 2-3 hours or so, as soon as i enter gta that 2hr stable drops to about 20 minutes if im lucky.

I keep getting blue screens with stuff like irq_not_equal and what not, here is the setup:

ok, so ive done this as suggested:

MCH: 1.52v
Command Rate: 2T
Timings Now at: 5-5-5-15
DDR2 Voltage: 2.150v (went between 2.1v and 2.2v)

So far so good, no scary blue screens. GTA still crashing after about 30 minutes however, might just be the game or something.

Do you think with this board and quad/memory setup i have i could it 4ghz? Im using a ultra 120 soon will have a push/pull config. My new fan will produce around 98cfm

Hull knocked us out of fa cup :(:(

doh! its the only way i can get to 3.8ghz, should i drop it?

I can get 3.6ghz with only around 1.52v

Gfx card is no longer overclocked, i think im best dropping to 3.6ghz and wait until i get the gtx 260 from here

with that vcore and everything it passes everst stress test 1hr 40 mins then i cancelled it, i dont like prime95.

I found GTA crashing because of my nvidia drivers, ive dropped it down to 3.6ghz vcore 1.56v

If anything above that is too high then how can i get 3.8ghz which is what i wanted:confused:

is there a way to achieve a higher overclock, or infact keep it at 3.6ghz without the need for such a high vcore?

Heres what ive got @ 3.6ghz:

FSB 400*9
DDR2 1000mhz Dual-Channel
PCI Express 100Mhz
Vcore 1.530v in Cpu-Z
DDR 2.1v
CPU VTT 1.35v
MCH (NB) 1.41v
ICH 1.25v
ICHIO 1.65v
GTLREF 75%

Would lowering the vcore and upping the VTT,MCH and GTLREF allow for the ideal overclock?

Im worried now using such a high vcore, even though my temps are good it is a lot of volts getting pumped through

ok, believe me im happy, my old p5n-e sli board struggled 3ghz!

I guess i could up it to 1.5vcore and get 3.7ghz and settle with that. I get about 37fps in gta iv with it anyway and by the time i get my new gfx card 4ghz wont seem like a must.

My Q6600 only to 3.3GHz and too scared to put it up more even my goal only to 3.4 GHz :(

Im sure you can get better, your motherboard is a pretty solid one, just follow the advice around the forums and keep an eye on your temps ;)

Heh, I got a new chip from the one in my sig, currently doing 3.65ghz @ 1.4v[/QOUTE]

Thats pretty sweet, you should be able to hit 3.9ghz-4ghz:D or so

what temperatures you get? If your ok you should be able to increase the voltage, also is your ram the same as mine (2x2gb platinum 1000mhz)? Set your ram to increase stability:

Advanced Chipset Settings (Memory Timings)
5-5-5-15-2T
Set the ddr2 voltage 2.1v

Thats if you havnt already setup these. Anyway what i learnt when overclocking is to not make big jumps, i.e going from 3ghz to 3.4ghz - raise your fsb say 10mhz and bump up the vcore, your bsods could be caused by the memory frequency, try and run it at 1:1 ratio

Qoute removed :D

Very interesting;)

Well im sure there are other options i can set to get a higher overclock, 3.6ghz initially was my target - but seeing this board is able to do much greater, its crying out for more and more!

Ok so im at 3.6ghz now stable as hell, the only settings im stumped on is the cpu VTT which i think supplied the volts to the cpu, and then theres the cpugtlref which im assuming tells how much to supply. I think if i changed these, maybe along with the north bridge i could get 3.6ghz on a lower vcore. But its knowing the limits, and not one person on this site or anywhere else ive read seems to know a "safe" amount of vtt or gtlref to set.

This board like some others does suffer a fair bit of vdroop, but im pretty sure i could hit 3.8ghz with the same vcore or near enough as the 3.6ghz needs. It just seems to me though no matter what i change, its always going to need more volts, which is fine from a temperature point of view, but as recently spoke about is a huge amount of currents flying through!

What to do, what do?!?!

I know i have pretty good temps, but as ive been reccomended im scared going over 1.55v now, but i have to hit 1.6v for 3.8ghz which is what i want. Maybe big wayne can help me get a higher overclock with less vcore ;)

Ok pics as requested by Big Wayne: (ive dropped down to 3.4ghz as a stepping stone point)
