Q6600 B3 to G0, worth it??

Ask yourself one question...

Will you really notice?

You might when you look at cpu-z :p but in the real world I doubt it.

Yeah exactly what I'm thinking, just wondering if i will keep everything else cooler but my speedfan temps have everything way below 40c, hard drives are 25-25c and system temp is around 35c. Its just the CPU that gets hot, PITA!

Man B3's really need water for decent overclock-

That's 4 Folding clients running within two VMWare VMs. Prime95 temps are another 6-7c higher.

Installed Vista today, where do you get those temp widgets from? One is everest but what is the other?

Oh and is it a Vista thing to use 50% memory when you're not doing anything? Task manager has it running at just under 1GB memory when I'm not doing anything.
Might get another set of 2x1GB next week though

When my system has booted up to the desktop, it reads like 900MB RAM being used but that starts to drop straightaway. On idle it uses like 500-550MB, but that's after some service tweaks.

Dunno about the sidebar widgets - they do look nice though, but Vista uses Pre-Fetch, to load anticipated images into memory. If you load other software it yields that back to you, and monitors your patterns in an attempt to optimise usage.

More memory is a benefit with Vista, but w/o 64-bit 4GB will be plenty.

Yeah, my problem though is that I don't think I have the room in my case for anything much bigger than the AC7.

Thanks for the other replies guys, reckon I am going to go for it!

AC7 is 126.5mm tall
Ultima-90 is 139mm tall (just over 1 cm more)
Thermaltake BigTyp 120 VX is 103mm tall

either of them would be good alternatives, the Ultima 90 being close to the best tower HSFs in capability.

You can get the CPU usage widget from here.

And Vista caches quite a lot into memory. It an advantage and it releases the used memory as soon as it's needed by something else.

Thanks for the replies guys. I went for it in the end. Should have it by the end of the week and fitted over the weekend. Will keep you posted. Now hope to sell my B3 on the bay for around the 130-140 mark.
