As above.

PC Wizards nd other tools say the Frequency os 2.4GHZ (current 1.6GHz).

Whay not 2.4 all the time? I have done no messing with the M/B.

Have I got a duff CPU?

Yip disable both C1E and EIST in the Advanced BIOS Features menu in your BIOS if you want its power-saving mode disabled.

Should make this info a sticky or something as it gets asked at least once per day it seems.

Right i have the same issue. I have found the C1E bit but cant find EIST. I have a Gigabyte 965P-DS4 is it called somehting else??

Thanks

It's probably called CPU EIST Function and should be pretty close to the C1E option.

You could just leave it on... it'll report it's normal speed the second you start to do something vaguely cpu intensive...

right slight problem. the option for EIST isnt there. In my user guide for the motherboard its listed as CPU EIST Function but there is a note which says "this item will show up when you install a processor that supports this function". Well this makes sense and I deffo have the Go stepping version of the Q6600.... so any ideas???

these are all the options available in the manual

CPU Hyper-Threading (Note)
Limit CPUID Max. to 3 (Note)
No-Execute Memory Protect (Note)
CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E) (Note)
CPU Thermal Monitor 2 (TM2) (Note)
CPU EIST Function (Note)
Virtualization Technology (Note)
Init Display First
