Q6600 G0 reports speed of 1.6Ghz. Whay not 2.4Ghz?

Yip that's the Advanced BIOS Features menu.

CPU EIST Function (Note)
Enabled Enable CPU EIST function. (Default value)
Disabled Disable CPU EIST function.

That's what you need to be looking at.

i tried the thermal monitor 2 thing, whats is this????
Throttles the CPU if it reaches dangerous temperatures, to prevent damage. It has nothing to do with the speedstep / power management functions.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS for the motherboard or it may not identify the G0 version of the Q6600 correctly. This would explain why you're not getting all the options. I've just checked Gigabyte's compatibility list and you must have the F10 BIOS to support the Q6600 G0.

don't worry, as said before speedstep is perfectly fine and stable, all it does is lowers the CPU frequency when its idling, to conserve power, usually slows you CPU fan down as well

Damn, I am getting scared from all those Bios stuff. Wonder if I go with Dell rather than building my own PC is the easier choice. Anyone got any guides that I can read about what I need to know about Bios, i.e. updating it ect.

Cheers.

yeah i have changed the settings back now. But still would like to know why the option isnt in my bios. Awaits to hear back from Gigabyte lol

Is this the normal edition or the energy efficient edition or or does it happen with both of them?
