Q6600 lifespan regarding temps.

greetings!
I have been running my q6600 for about a year now, and it has been great for what I want it to do (it is still running great up to this present day).
However there is always something that sticks in the back of my mind; the lifespan of it.
It often idles at about 50*c on the stock frequency (I do not overclock because of how hot it would get) and about 77*c on 100% using prime 95 and core temp.
Could anyone give me a rough estimate in years how long this processor would last me at this heat? the voltage is roughly 1.275v for anyone whom wants to know.
My PC case is a generic case with very poor ventilation and I am unsure about my coolermaster Hyper TX3, I cannot tell if it is any good but so far I have not seen any improvements out of it in comparison to my stock fan.
Should I upgrade my HSF and case to get the CPU to last me say... another 3 years?

Best regards.

I wouldn't stress. These chips run hot. Simple as. People have been running and abusing them for years with no ill effects.

Buy a better cooler or even apply a fresh reseat with good thermal compound.
50c stock idle is very high any decent cooler will be much much lower.

Maybe it would be worth noting that since this HSF came with cheap plastic fins, one of them bent as I was placing it in.
I totally understand that this was probably my stupid carelessness, but it may also explain why my CPU is running so highly, since the main feel i'm getting from that thread is the main factor would be the seating of the HSF.

then please try to get another cooler.
have a look here http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=701&catid=57&subid=1395&sortby=priceAsc

the hyper212+ is a good budget cooler

my q6600 overclocked to 3.4ghz idles in the high 20's to low 30's depending on ambient temps

if you can get the temps down, you should get a longer lifespan on it.
also if you can get it upto 3.0ghz, you will see a jump in performance as well.

Thanks for your help, however I have been browsing at HSFs/watercooling systems for months, and low budget is not really a big bother to me. I could gladly spend £50 on an air HSF or the Hydro H50 if it meant I would have a cool system.
My main problem lays in experience; only been learning about hardware for a year. So i'm not 100% sure on whether the case or the cooler is the problem.

the H50 is a decent cooler, but personally i would look into getting a decent case with good air cooling as well

but first get the cooler, those temps are rather high;)

SeeD you posted the following in the other thread to which I provided the link in my earlier post 4. Did you buy from PC World aswell:p?

Made a thread similar to this, and just found it bloody weird you have an identical case and cpu to me, with an identical problem.

I'm having the exact same problem as you, maybe it's a fault from the point of view of the case.
I'm probably wrong, just seems strange.

Indeed I did! But wow that must've been about 4-5 years ago.
Back when a C2D E4500 pre built system was worth £600.

Has any one had a CPU long enough to see it come to its end? I overclock everything I buy if its possible and don't upgrade near as often as some here do and have yet to have anything die on me.

Not that hot.

Mine at 3.5 never saw over 60-65 prime loaded and I would never let it go over that.

77 is too hot.

I wouldn't worry about the OP's temps

if the CPU is stable its not an issue

my Q6600 will get to 81C under Prime @ 1.55V

it may reduce its life by a small amount but will still last WAY past its useful life

as far as I am aware the new Sandy processors have very similar TJMax

people run those in the 80s under load without problems-whats the difference ?

I wouldn't worry about it. It's excess voltage that damages CPU's in general, and you are at stock volts. Your temperatures while high, don't seem dangerously so. That chip should last until it is utterly obsolete.

I was looking at a rather tasty case on the OCUK site:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-228-CM&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=29
It mentions having 120mm fans to help with the cooling, along with the well needed space.
This is going to sound stupid, but how would I go about connecting extra 120mm fans to my PC? Never had to do it before.

You could go for that case, but you paying a £10 premium just for the colour design?

I personally would be more incline to spend an extra £7 and go for this and this.

Extra fans can either connect directly to headers on the motherboard, or to the PSU via a molex connector and an adapter usually supplied with the fan. You can also connect several fans to a fan controller, then power them all from one molex.

Just sold my q600 which I ran overlooked for 4yrs, mainly @ 1.4v but for the last 6 mths when I got better cooling went to 1.5v 3.6ghz. Temp wise mid 60s at full load is acceptable IMO but anything more is getting toasty.

Best chip I ever owned.

my 3 year old q6600 @ 1.65v [on water] is still going strong. I've been hoping it'd die soon so i'm forced to replace, but it's still going like a champ. You cannae kill 'em captain.
