Q6600 OCUK Latest Batch Codes and Performance

The other possibility is that the game is entirely GPU bound and changing the CPU hasn't made any difference ;) We won't know until

(a) V|per's e6400 is back at stock/2.4 or
(b) V|per's Q6600 is overclocked.

Very useful test though, nice one

edit: V|per, what revision of BFG 680i do you have?

I tried the Bioshock Demo as one of the indicators when trying to decide between the e6850 and the Q6600

Although i did not take any bechmarks, i found the Q6600 at 3.8Ghz noticably smoother that the e6850 at 4.05Ghz Thats why i decided to keep the Q6600 in the end :)

Now i have settled on the Q6600 here are my current results.
This is based on fairly basic water cooling as per my sig..

Best Overclock 4140 Mhz (SuperPi 1M and CPUz validated)
Best Useable Overclock 4050 Mhz (SuperPi 32M - 3DMark 2006 - Game Play)
Best Prime Stable 3804

my q6600 arrived yesterday, cant remeber the details but froma look at the IHS, its a lot better than my e6300 was. i'll probably still lap it but its not a shabby place to star for a change! looking forward to nailing it all together on sunday.

Hi Simon

What voltage are you putting through yours and what is the motherboard? Any vdroop issues?

The one I am testing seems to be getting better with time, now at 3860Mhz stable on air, gonna shoot for 3900MHz and then see if I can maybe get some benches out of it at 4000MHz too which will be an achievement on air. :)

Hi there,
which cpu are you guys ordering the standard power one ? or the
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient 95W Edition" version? there on special this week will order one not sure which one.

Its not easy to get stability... vcore is only one of the challenges.
I'm using the Blitz Formula and have had to work hard at the PLL voltage and FSB Termination voltage - these are both set quite high but dont seem to cause excessive heat anywhere.

I have set FSB termination to 1.70. PLL to 1.71 for stability
The NB did not seem to need more than 1.55
Vcore...
For 3.8 Stable i'm at 1.55 in the bios - the monitor reads 1.54 Tru and it droops to 1.52 under load.
4.05 needed 1.6v 1.58 True
4.14 needed 1.625 bios - 1.6 True

Temps are fine for me...
at 4.05 - idle core about 38c NB at 47c - load jumps to 65 - 76c when trying to prime... I have managed 15 minutes of Prime at 4.05 but then it falls over, clearly heat is building up somewhere.

Gibbo... when you say stable please can you define...
I find that 100% stable is that you can Prime on All 4 cores at once (i.e. 100% CPU load) for at least 30 minutes.
Real life stable means i can game and do any real world tasks without it falling over. I am real life stable at 4.05

Also running Vista requires much greater stability than XP. I find you have to be able to run at least 32M Super Pi or preferably Prime in XP for Vista to be stable even on boot.

The 95W Low power one is the one to get as it is more overclockable.

Just use the latest beta for CPU-Z, should show the correct voltage although validation wont work.

CPU-Z 1.41.0 Beta

Beta remember, so as with any beta software use at your own risk - other people are using this by the way.

baaaah, not putting the dual back in after the ordeal i had with swappig cpu's...

I have the D00 revision of the BFG 680i, and, even thos this is the later revision, it appears it still does not want to clock quad  (which is odd, as a q6600 b3 has been in there at 3.6 before...)

Well, it can do 3ghz prime stable, but that's it, im gonna go see if im on the latest bios... (oh yeah, it's prime stable at 3ghz at 1.2v in the bios, thats about 1.175v load w/ droop.. that is rather impressive...)

My G0 Quad and Blitz formula arrived today :D so will hopefully join the party soon.......I am going to experiment with putting the CPU in my P5WDH first, and then swap out the mobo (and reload Vista  and all other apps).......

Mind you, I will be on Air only (Scythe Ninja + mind :))

Set the HT link to 4 (both)
FSB 1.5
SPP 1.5
MCP 1.6
SPP-MCP 1.5

That CPU-Z beta shows my vcore to be 1.6  :p (it is stock!)
LOL, looks like it needs more tuning. Not sure if its motherboard dependent . . . I've seen some people using it with Quad G0 showing correct voltages. :)

Hi... just put my new Q6600 G0 in... and it is niccccce :) hehehehe

but i turned my overclock of my e6300 off... putting the Mhz back to stock.. long story... but what would i have to set it to get to the usual 2.4Ghz of the Q6600 ?

Thanks

edit - wait i might of just found it.. is it 342 ? 342 x 7 = 2.394

Default for the Q6600 is 266 * 9
