Q6600 OCUK Latest Batch Codes and Performance

Set the HT link to 4 (both)
FSB 1.5
SPP 1.5
MCP 1.6
SPP-MCP 1.5

strangely enough, those were the exact setting i had set them to... And still no luck, i can't see it being the cpu, 3.2ghz 8 hour blend stable with only 1.2v... there must be more in it, thus, must be the board (ram is good for 1200mhz :D)

Ok try lowering the FSB voltage to 1.3. Helped a little with mine as bizarre as it seems.

What error code are you getting?

tried the voltage, still no good.

Error code? no error code, just does not want to post (freezes just before it detects the drives)

Double power off and restart restores bios to default, then save the settings, and it gets to the windows boot screen and freezes instantly (don't even get the progress bar appear) double restart again etc etc.

I haven't tried whacking the fsb up to 400+ yes, so i may try that, see if it's an fsb hole, i'm not holding my breath though, pretty sure it's this board.

Well I was stuck at 1500 for a while and it took a day of messing with all the settings (voltage/HT links etc) before I got past the 'wall'. Don't give up yet.

That's as far as I've got for now. Ignore the temps, Speedtemp is off the mark, but I wish my first die was as good as the second :(.

My dies are much the same as yours, but interestingly i find that when prime falls over (the rare time the PC does not just re boot) that its the 3rd core that fails - decpite, like yours it beeing at a lower temp.

Ok, so it's in windows at 3.6ghz at 1.3v, so it must have been an fsb hole... this is actually the 1st time i have experienced an fsb hole, but hey, i'm happy now! (it's not prime stable yet either btw...)

Jokester: where do i get the version of prime95 that you are running, as it's starting to get annoying setting the afinity of 2 lots of orthos's each time i want to stress test :D

Cheers Jokester.

Right, did this pic about 30 mins ago, it's using 1.45v, but my board suffers from rather bad vdroop (up to 0.1v at times  )

3.6.jpg

Also, notice my board ISN'T revision A1, thus the clocking issues... still, 3.6ghz isn't bad on a borad that's not supposed to clock quads very well at all...

I'll migrate to a new board when x38/nf7 comes out, just need to see if i will ever use SLi (i know i don't need it, it's whether i WANT it or not :D)

I just got my Q6600 G0, Asus Blitz Forumla and Crucial Ballistix 2GB DDR2 PC2-5300. Hope to get overclocking soon, just using the TT Big Typhoon for now.

I'm not after a massive, +4GHz overclock, getting to run stable around 3.6 Ghz is ok for everyday use. Few questions.

What is the most realible temp monitor? All of them vary, Speedfan gives some very low readings compared to the others.

Shall i leave V Core on auto or manually set a voltage?

What about DRAM voltage?

400 FSB x 9 ok for my specs, will allow me to run it on 1:1. How fast can these ram run at?

i have 4x1gig (2x 2gig kits) 1 kit does 1400mhz 5-5-5-12, the other does 1200mhz 5-4-4-12, and will do 900mhz 4-4-4-10 easily, so will run 800mhz easily.

I would set the voltages manually, then adjust them accordingly if needed.

Intel's TAT and coretemp seem to be pretty reliable temp monitors.

Nice one V|per, glad you got it sorted out especially with me having same batch number as you - got watercooling coming next week, looks like a good batch. :)

After a nightmare with my shuttle build (OCZ 2*2Gb kit wouldnt post) now running with 4*1Gb PC6400 (two different kits) on default just "burning in" and will start oc'ing tomorrow

Edit - currently getting strange results

CPU-Z (1.4) is stating 1896MHz core speed with bus speed of 316Mhz (any higher and I have to bump the Vcore above 1.3v)

Boot up at default and bus speed is 266 and I get core speed of 2.4Ghz (which I would expect)

Windows System properties is registering 2.84Ghz

Unfortunately this shuttle bios isnt allowing access to multiplier so I cant change that from default of 6

Well I've been having a quick look at mine (for some reason I decided to go Vista 64bit with the rebuild so have had enough problems with that over the weekend!). I can get into windows at 4Ghz but it's not prime stable, it'll run SuperPi and browse etc, but Prime fails after a while.

Basically I haven't really got much of a clue of exactly what I'm doing with this. I've been AMD for ages so I've kind of just dived in without much appreciation of exactly what does what... :o There are a lot more voltage settings with this board (IP35 Pro) than I'm accustomed to! I've been have a quick look around on the .net but haven't found a definitive overclocking guide as yet...

Got a G0 coming from OcUK tomorrow, so will let you know how it goes (and compares to the B3).

Yeah I know what you mean. "Crikey" is a polite way of repeating what I said when I first hit the bios voltage screen! uGuru is quite handy though as I can play with pretty much everything apart from the memory timings.

Still not too sure exactly what CPU VTT does... Currently running a quick prime test at 3.6Ghz, vcore is showing 1.42v under load in windows (1.5275 in BIOS), temps at 59/59/58/58. Settings basically as follows, bit of a stab in the dark at the moment. After 10mins PWM hits 82deg!!! :o Any tips?!! :)

I stuck an 80mm fan in the vicinity of what I'm guessing is the PWM area but it still hit 80deg... So I dug out an old Vantec Tornado 92mm fan that I've had lying about for ages, that didn't do too much either. Then I realised the fan controller was set to low so whacked it up to full... I forgot how loud these fans were!!!! Took nigh on 30deg off the temp though, now down to 52deg... :o Think I'm going to have to come up with a quieter solution though ;)

Settings I'm using at the moment as I managed to miss them off the above...

For info it's also running with 4GB Ballistix 5300 and Vista 64bit...
