Q6600 overclocking infor needed pls. :)

ah cool, I am just curious as I seem to have a good chip but I am sure I'll need a lot more volts to squeeze a couple of hundred more MHz out of it. I know I'm hijacking but out of interest, what kind of max clockspeed should I be looking at for the Q6600? About 4GHz?

Decent temps :)

I have my Q6600 @3.6 with 1.375v, I always mean to go for more but give up when prime fails. I think it has more in it but I have neither the skill nor the time do get it out of it.

Right now with a TRUE in push pull my temps are around 37 idle & around 65 loaded.

Might get some better fans for my TRUE & try again, right now I have Noctuas but these ones are more for case fans than a HSF.....I really should fix that lol.

As long as your load temps are under 75c then there should be no issue with pushing the vcore to 1.55v. I wouldn't recommend above this for 24/7 use but it really does depend on what sort of load temperatures you are seeing.

I am yet to see anyone kill a Q6600 using vcore of up to 1.6v assuming reasonable load temperatures.

I would suggest whilst your over clocking your CPU you take your RAM right out of the picture and run it in slow mode maybe 5-5-5-23 and just keep it as close to 800mhz as possible. If you are using 4 sticks you might need to give your NB a little extra voltage.

Mines running sweet but I tried Vantage and it wont run comes up with a error, gaming is fine played Dirt 2 for hours, another thing is it ok to have the setting in the bios where it drop the multiplier down so its not overclocked 24/7.

Give these a read through:

Overclocking # 1 - Stock to 2.7GHz

Overclocking # 2 - 2.7GHz to 3.0GHz

Overclocking # 3 - 3.0GHz to 3.2GHz

Overclocking # 4 - 3.2GHz to 3.4GHz

Go through them all though as changed settings are incremental. Meaning one setting on the first article may have an impact further down. I never needed to change the NB or pll voltages until i got to 3.6GHz. I've not include the 3.6GHz because things get a bit sticky and one of my cores fail on prime. Still it seems stable enough for every day uses and games..

Thanks for the links! Going to give this a go on the weekend. Hoping to get 3.0 or 3.2GHz, Never overclocked before so going to take some figuring out...
