Q6600 temps - too much difference?

Hi,

Just built my new system and am getting the following readings from CoreTemp:

Core 0: 38
Core 1: 34
Core 2: 30/31
Core 3: 33/34

Is it a bit dodgy to have a 7-8 degree difference between cores? CPU cooler is a Tuniq Tower 120.

Cheers

I've been looking at peoples core temps on there screen snags in various threads and I don't think it's uncommon. Mine are reading 51,51,46,48 under load.

agreed. thou you could lap it and see if they even out a bit

Edit: nice temps Bony Maloney whats it running at ?

Been running the small FFT test in Prime (as far as I can tell from the sticky that's right) and after 20 mins I had 59-56-52-55?

EDIT: Just creeped up to 60-57-54-56

I would say nothing to worry about, my temps at the moment are 30,32,27 & 30, you also have tolerance between the temperature sensors which will course some difference. :)

Seems high to me thb.
I would resink the heatsink, have you applied enough paste?

Mines is sat idle @ 33-33-28-33 - system has been on all day (stock).

I dont get them sort of temps under load @ 3.4GHZ.

:(

Yeah I applied a fair amount of Arctic Silver, thin line all the way round the edge and a dab in the middle, then spread it all over till the whole of the top was covered :/

Myself and a friend did them side by side, pretty much identically. Maybe I've just done it wrong somehow.

you only want a small amount (grain of rice). from what you say it sounds like you have too much

Is that the procedure recommended by the manufacturer?

If not check what they recommend and try following their guidance.

That's why they make it available :)

As posted on Arctic Silver's Website. This is specifically for the Quad core.

I used this method and have the temps above. (Using the Tuniq 120, with a Lian Li V1000+ case).

Interesting, my friend looked at a guide before hand, though I don't know which one and that's what we followed. Thanks for the info, think I will have another go. Can you clean AS off fairly easily, or is it a pain?

that doesn't seem too bad, I have a qx6700 (stock 2.66ghz) running at 3.2 and idle my temps are 58, 59, 54, 55. That's with an akasa 961 air cooler. I think it's quite normal for core 1 and 2 to run slightly warmer than 3 & 4 simply because there are not that many programmes out there that utilize multi-threading, or even dual-threading to be honest. The processor will self throttle (turn off/reset) long before any damage can be done, so enjoy! Quads run hot anyway, cos of the extra 2/3 cores. But If you are getting woried, simply reset the hsf as has been said above, thin line horizontaly across the cores, place the hsf,let that spread the paste and bobs your uncle. Took me a few times to get it right.

Hmm. Took the plunge and lapped the CPU and heatsink last night, figured I may as well if I had to remove the heatsink to seat it again anyway. Both were not exactly flat so glad I did it, however temps are still uneven!

Core 0 is now a minimum 6/7 degrees hotter than Core 2, and when I first loaded up after re-building, the temps were all over the place, Core 0 was up to 13 degrees hotter than Core 2 at some stages?!?!

They seem to have calmed down a bit now, sitting idle at 32-30-24-27 at the moment, which is a nice improvement. Still bothering me about the difference though, I followed the Arctic Silver instructions that were posted by Bony Maloney too. Perhaps I should try again, maybe I didn't get it quite right?
