just recieved my new q6600 today, (vid 1.35) out of curiosity i was wondering, are the guaranteed overclocking versions that ocuk sell selected versions with a lower vid.

no, all Q6600 G0's will get to guaranteed speed

EDIT: 1.35 is a very high one, mines 1.3125 and thats high

I gots a 1.3125v one as well but it still clocked upto 3551MHz so your 1.35v should be good for 3.3GHZ at least which is all the OC overclocked one's are worth anywho.

The VID's do seem to be higher nowadays tho..... or is that just me noticing that?

thanks for reply, the 1.35 for mine is whats printed on the side of the box, im unfortunately without a motherboard at the minute so i cant try the cpu out and see how it clocks:(

Yup, mine states 1.35 on the box but it's really 1.225v. It depends on the motherboard as well I believe, some don't read the correct VID and just use the standard 1.35.

You need to get the CPU installed and then run up CoreTemp to get the actual VID, mine is 1.2625 and the box reports the max possible VID of a Q6600 G0 by the way :)

Is there CoreTemp for Vista x64 yet ? Last time I looked it didn't work :( but that was some time ago.....

1.2750v for me......so I think this is good ? So is VID the 'potential' indicator of a given chip, then - for a thickie like me to digest

Well the lower the voltage needed to run at 2.4ghz, then in theory the better the chip may overclock.

But it's not always the case.

Seems like my Q6600 can run at stock volts 1.2250 at 3.1GHZ... which isn't to shaby really...

I did actually have more voltage than that through it earlier, but decided to drop it really low to see how much stability difference there is. Far as I can see, seems rock stable still :)
