A 9800GTX+ is a very nice card, its almost identical to the GTS 250 (the performance certainly is), and plays very well at 1920x1080. Any idea whether it's the 512MB or 1GB version?

think it was a 512mb :( but it was only £25 so cant really complain if its what i get

No worries. You will still be expecting at least 30-40FPS in modern games (except crysis). Should be a nice upgrade.

Here is a performance analysis. Remember, a GTS 250 512MB is the same as the card you are getting. Also some of those test use levels of AA and Af that will bring the performance down quite a bit, if you live without these things you will get much better framerates.

ok, well i will do that stress test tonight and find out the temps, see if i can up my cpu without changing the hsf and go from there once i know what gfx card i will have.

im running the test now for 25mins, have looked at the forum rules but cant see what is the best/max size for pictures on this forum so i can post up the result graphs. anyone help please.

Best plan is upload using a hoster like imageshack. If you are using OCCT, just crop the relevant bit in paint and upload it at full size - should be fine, I do it all the time for PC specs.

ok will do, core 3 errored so it didnt do the full 25mins, any ideas?

Core 3 errored? That says to me that it isn't getting enough volts. The temperature seem safe, so you will want to set the volts manually in the BIOS and retest.

Let me make this clear, right now your PC isn't stable.

Out of interest, what is your Power supply make and model?

oh, thats not good, it seems to be running fine with everything i have thrown at it. which voltages are wrong, i know that prog has shown graphs for some, but i dont understand most of whats gone on.

oooooo, that power supply........well.......its pretty bad. Give it a google and look for some reviews.

Before you buy any coolers or graphics cards , I suggest investing in a decent PSU like this. As always, the PSU is the most important part of your system.

As for your CPU, you want to increase your VCORE (CPU voltage), start it at 1.25V and increase it incrementally until it passes OCCT stable without errors, may need to go up to 1.3V. Find it in the BIOS's "AI Tweaker" Page.

Edit: Sorry, you are using a biostar P35 not the Asus P5Q in your sig?

yeah, the first psu i had for this build blew and killed my P5Q and some ram, wasnt happy so had to get what money allowed (it was free from work).

My only response is: Unless you want history to repeat itself - get a better PSU. I have had a read up on the EZCOOL 650W and I can only find bad things and angry people. It is possible that the PSU is causing your instability problem - but I would try out manually increasing the CPU voltage first.

we can only really get Evo-Labs through work, and most of my stuff i get on credit as wages aint great :(

cpu you lets me go +0.012, +0.025, +0.037.......

Is that offered when you go click on the [Start Up] option?

If so, I would try the 0.012 and see how it goes.

As for the memory voltage, what is 1.9V the specified voltage of your RAM sticks? Most 1066 sticks I use are 2.1V or more.

i thought so too, will have a look at what the sticks say, the settings are all default i think, apart from i had to force it to 1066 ram
