Q9550 ES Testing (lots of pics)

Can we guess when these CPUs will be available to the public?
I am going to build my system soon and i will have to survive with a P4 3.0.
I am interested on the 9450

I wonder if intel are putting walls on these to sell more Xtreme edition chips.

I doubt it very much - the overclocking community is miniscule compared to the 'Dell's' of this world - wouldn't be worth the effort. They will just be speed binned like most cpu's. Maybe weescott just has a bum chip - maybe we are expecting too much.

meh, my E6400 has a wall at 485Mhz ish.

tbh though, having a wall at 450MHz still means the chip can hit 3.8Ghz, which is well above the EE chips.

3.8 Ghz is nice and all, but with the EE chips doing 4500 on air it would leave me wanting a higher multi.

Maybe we are, would you sell your 4Ghz Q6600 for a 3.8Ghz penryn ?

I guess the FSB wil vary a lot like the conroes, your 500FSB G0 is much more than my 444FSB one was. Weescott probably has an average one.

Remember that this is an ES chip so final retail chips could be better, plus I haven't confirmed that it is an FSB wall yet.

This Penryn is 2 to 5 hundred mhz faster than a Q6600 clock for clock also using a lot less power making it easier to cool and overclock.

Maybe if it were a straight swap or with little cash outlay as it seems a 200mhz gap in clockspeed performs at similar levels with the 2 chips. The FSB wall does seem to be a stumbling block tho if it is indeed a wall as those with higher grade of cooling will be left dissapointed if they dont get one with an unlocked multi to reach a higher clockspeed than folk with air.

This must have been luck!
