Quad Core PC Vs Xbox 360?

Its subsidized, they make a loss on every one sold same as Sony on PS3, they try to outsell each other and get cash back on games.

(Google it and you will see they dont make on the actual console hardware)

That wasnt my point, the point of stating xbox live is the whole way it makes online play with friends an absolute breeze, and i know the PC has exclusives thats why i stated i use both. With regards to media sharing, I understand many people use HTPCs, however most PC gamers will use their PC at a desk and therefore it may be impractical to connect it to a TV setup, therefore I was stating the 360 can be a useful media centre extender, accessing content on a PC in a different room.
I'm just saying they're hardly pro points since the PC can do all that too, much better in most of those cases too.

I'd get a PC simply because if you buy 10+ new releases in a year (~£25 each on PC / ~£40 on Xbox360 ) you've already saved enough money to buy a new mid-high range graphics card, whilst the Xbox user's are still stuck with their same old setup (well I suppose they might be able to buy some new edition with an even bigger rip-off hard-drive :p).

If your thinking what about the cost of upgrading the processor etc every year then stop there! Processor's have a MUCH longer lifespan in terms of PC Gaming than the graphics card. A 3 year old processor coupled with a modern graphics card will still provide good gaming performance.

I have a E6300 @ 2.8Ghz, X1950XT 2GB ram. And my xbox 360 beats it hands down. Plus a much wider range of games which are better than the PC versions as most game companys know consoles is where the money is at. Plus you have xbox live on a 360 along with the arcade. You can also trade in games and just buy new ones. I would get a 360, pc gaming is dieing TBH lol. And this is coming from someone who played PC games for 3 years and hated all consoles. I am glad I went onto the 360.

Thats because your CPU and GPU are nothing to write home about m8.

A new spec PC would be far superior to any console and most peeps like to play 1st and 3rd Person Shooters with Mouse+KB.

And another talking BS saying PC game is dying, it was all over the web months ago that games like online/multi/RPG have the PC once again overtaking consoles in usage.

I cant stereotype but I guess many kids have a console over a PC but more adults a PC over a console, some may have both.

^^ thats just not true mate, i work in a game shop, the average adult gamer has probably never played PC games or would rather just play from their sofa. Remember, Overclockers isnt a good representation of the general public.
Anyway i play both, but with regards to 360, seriously, dont knock it til youve tried it :p

I have played all consoles, but anyone saying PC gaming is dying is talking pure BS, plain and simple.

The Xbox360 is ok but nothing special, played many a game on it.

Hi just out of interest how much more powerful is an Intel Quad Core PC with 2 Gig Ram & Nvidia 8800GTS compared with an XBox 360?

Just wanted to get things into perspective before i take the plunge and buy a new gaming rig!

Thanks.
How much more powerful is a Porshe 911 compared with a Skateboard... Thought I would post another silly question.. :p

I pretty much agree with you (although not quite so strongly) Although the games that do come out on the pc are still very good (although the number of poor quality ports seems to be growing) there just aren't enough of them. I've bought about 4 times as many games for my 360 this year. SImple because developers are beginning to ignore the pc, take the darkness, great fps that would surely be right at home on the PC, yet it was only on 360 and PS3 and i think thats goign to become more and more common. All the old staples of the pc gaming world have moved to consoles as well (Quake, UT. C&C, Battlefield...) PC gaming is definitely not dead but it is on the decline, and with consoles getting more and more like pc's but without the frustrations of drivers, compatibility issues, multiple programmes just to play online (i.e. live's integrated chat, msn, marketplace) i just can't see things getting better for PC. Games for windows is a step in the right direction with a set of standards for pc games, i just hope enough developers will utilize it.

Whats the point of spending £500 every couple of months upgrading your GPU and CPU when you can pay £40 per game for the 360 and have stunning graphics on a larger HD screen and not have to worry about how much FPS you are getting. With PC's most the time all the games on it are shoddy ports from consoles. Plus when my hardware was the top of the range I still thought pc gaming was not as good as a console due to having to make sure your system was running tiptop and doing every tweak in windows to get the most FPS I could.

The fact is, there are people who prefer pc's but have not tried consoles and I guess more than 50% who do try consoles will prefer a xbox 360 or ps3 to a pc. Especially as they are cheaper than any pc that is required to play most new games. And that they will not be playing some crappy ported game with lots of bugs.

Plus things like xbox live make it so much easier for gamers, it is a pain going to a website and having to wait hours to download something like a battlefield patch witch is 500MB and the server are crippled with thousands of people downloading off them. With xbox live patches are fast and they download streight away instead of taking you to a website which will take a while to load and then take ages to download the patches.

There are some games which shoud just be played on a PC, I would love to see how Counter strike source could be played on a contoller. But a majority of games which make you upgrade your pc are not worth it. If you dont play online why not just go and buy a 360 for £250 and xbox live for £40 atleast then you will never have to upgrade until the next gen consoles come out. And your also playing games to get achievments.

That must be the biggest post I have made on these forums :).

I also agree with you mate, games for windows seems like a good enough idea. Even though it's vista based I think. It would be good if the game companys release the xbox 360 and ps3 games on games for windows. Installing drivers and optimizing my PC to try and get the best performance is very annoying when with a console you stick the game in and play and you get very good graphics.
If they make games for windows like xbox live with a intergrated update manager and server like the ones on xbox live which max out your connection when downloading demos, it will be a big leap for PC gaming. Although it is annoying upgrading your hardware every year.

Thats also BS, I use my PC for more than gaming, you dont think the OP made this dumb post for this exact reason ?.

You do not need buy PC parts every few months, the 8800GTX is like 1 year old so are many CD2 CPU Models.

Console games are costly to buy legitly, thats where they make back some cash, and they still are always going to be DX9 untill next new consoles and they dont game at as High a RES as PC's can.

As I said consoles are static so games are more opimised for them than the variables in a PC build, DX10 was supposed to help put a end to that with unification.

This thread is also in wrong section.

This.

The fact I can do much more than just gaming/movies on my PC makes up for the so called high price of it. (Ironic considering most people buy 500+ quid HDTVs for their 360s)

The amount of video formats I can play on my PC is just godly, it's not just my PC it's my TV as well.

if comparing games on pc/xbox/ps3, cost when purchasing it is not a valid comparison, as in the end, they are about the same price. as you may spend a few hnudred more in the first place on a pc, yet xbox games are usually £40, thats £15 a pop dearer than pc games, which in the end, if you buy an xbox, will probably make it a dearer games machine than a pc. a fine example of this is the new biosock game, can be had for £25 on pc, whereas it is £40 on xbox.

edit: and xbox live costs.

edit2: conclusion: dont compare a £250 xbox, when its dearer by the time youve finished with it.

edit3: dont care if its already been said, im saying it again for those xbox losers ;)

Unless you have money troubles/constraints then i think not getting both is pretty silly as you miss out on quite a lot of content and great games. I have a decent PC 360 and a Wii as all have games i want to play.

So using a higher rez what? gives you a bigger e-penis. Who cares if consoles are DX9 the point is if you compare the graphics to a DX10 card you will need magifying glasses to tell the difference.

Most people have HDTV's these days because they are slimmer and my stylish. So an xbox 360 will cost £290 this is with xbox live as they have dropped the prices now. This will last you 2 years. And £40 a game, if your clever enough you can have them modded then you will notice it is way cheaper than a PC. I would much rarther spend £290 and then get games and trade them in when I am done than spend £400 on a fancy DX10 card and £300 on a quad core cpu. And then spend countless hours optimizing my system and playing crap console ports of games which are actually good on consoles. I have a list of games which are only to be played on PC but a lot of games these days are ported from consoles.

I played PC games a lot for 3 years, and then a few months ago. And I had mixed veiws about console gaming and I thought I would hate using a controller. And I have to say I would not play a game which is out on the 360 on a PC as the graphics are amazing and are still for a console which is over a year old. And with microsoft putting millions into special content things are getting better.

I would change my veiw if microsoft made something good of the games for windows which I hope they do.

I am no means a console fanboy though :p.

No, because it looks nicer. Why do you think consoles do HD now?

Actually, I bought mine for *drumrolls* the higher resolution. :o

Those figures are about double what they should be.

After these three points, I gave up. Your opening lines were just so inticing, then it went downhill.
