Quad Core ?

not really....

i said -
yeah... but seriously... i don't wanna waste £175... i know you will say it won't be a waste... but what difference would i see... i am web/graphic designer... so would it help there ?

and also i asked -
also i wanted a lightscribe dvd drive... any thoughts on that ?

;)

also at the moment... my e6300 is overclocked to around 2.66Ghz.. (yeah i know i am gettting there ;) and it has orthos load temps of around 55c.. i am sure that is not normal especially as i have a Noctua NH-U12F fitted... any thoughts ?

to be honest, you can make web graphics on a P3 laptop. The images aren't going to be big precisely because they're for the web. When you're editting photos you need a bit more, but frankly unless you're doing enormous print work, 2D stuff rarely requires a lot of resources, unless you have an image-hungry flash app to work on.

What you really have to ask yourself is whether or not your e6300 is really holding you back. Is it stopping you doing anything that you could do on a better PC, or at least making it considerably harder to do so?

If the answer's no - and if you're making web graphics, I suspect it is - then I really don't think it's worth upgrading.

ok cool... well no... i don't suppose i need one... but none of us need anything really we just like to buy it because it makes us cool to think we all have uber pc's ;)

anyway... any thoughts on lightscribe or even the new £150 Blu-Ray burner/player they got here...

As I said in another thread, I really do need all the power I can get - I do a lot of 3d work, and the rendering is just a wall - with 2d stuff (which I also have to do a lot of, of course), if you wanna tweak something, you can play around, undoing etc, seeing the results instantly. With 3d, you have to render out the image which, when you have complex stuff going on can take absolutely ages - and it's time you can't really use to do anything else, it's just totally wasted. Of course, we'll always find new techy ways of filling up all the CPU power we have, but in theory the resulting image should look better as a result.

As for the blu-ray, I'm afraid I cannot help you that, I have no idea!

Thats perfectly fine, remember Orthos stress's your CPU to the max, you've still got a good 15c to go before you need to worry.

ok cool... so the cooling is fine.... i still don't know what to do about a Quad-core... and no-one knows about blu-ray or lightscribe ;)

I've discussed this before, if you're going to be using it for games there's not really much point, games have only just been optimized for two cores, nevermind four.

This attitude is really starting to irritate me when all new up and coming games are being designed to run these quad cores. Hence source engin, crysis, bioshock i bleieve? Which new ones coming out arnt going to run all 4 cores?

yeah i know it is.... (really i do LOVE it !!! ha ha ha) i was just wondering if there was anything i could do to make the experience the best ever... i don't wanna spend money (really i don't i am really tight !!) but i was just thinking of anything that could improve it....

any thoughts ?

Quad cores are redundant for most people, but it won't stop legions of people buying them simply because they sound cool (like 8800 Ultras)

A fool and his money are easily parted, after all.

In fairness people said that about DX10 cards, and native dx10 games are coming out this month. Multi-threaded games (such as Crysis) are just round the corner, and the relatively low price of quads make them good value for money.

How fast do you reckon you could get a quad under that vapourchill unit of yours? ;)

Probably slower than what I've got already. I don't imagine it would get more than 4Ghz unless I was lucky.

4 cores in the same package as 2, it's bound to be hotter (theoretically twice as hot under full load)

I think you might be suprised actually, I just got my hands on a G0 Q6600 and its running much MUCH cooler than my early E6700ES

thanks for all the comments everyone... but i was thinking i currently have this RAM in my pc

OCZ RAM

and it is currently quite cheap... i was thinking i could add another 2GB which would bring it to 4GB !!! (wow that is a LOT of ram).. would this be good... or is it a waste of money... would i get a big improvement ?
