Quake Live Open Beta Today

Managed to get to the head of the queue and play this morning. Took about 15mins to get there, but once in It was fine, I also managed to crash the browser and I was able to rejoin again without having to requeue. I'm impressed.
 
I guess it's because it's a tried and tested game that (imo) was great fun to play at the time. It has now been made availible for all tweaked with new ideas that ID has learned since.

The new user level where your guided around a level by crash and then have to fight a 1 on 1 is excellent, the AI becoming more and tougher as the game goes on which is great for keeping things interesting. It also gives you a chance to put the WD40 on those rusty skills and afterwards gives you a skill rating score that it uses to put you in ranked games against people in similar skill levels. I've played maybe 10 games last night and this morning in total and throughly enjoyed every single one :)

Not to mention, it's a good FPS, that should run smooth as silk on any machine up to 5 years old and it's FREE :D

i guess it all boils down to the fact that QuakeLive has a central location for all it's games so all players come / go from one source instead of scattered about different browsing clients (All Seeing Eye, Gamespy etc) and sticking to particular servers (Jolt, Barrysworld, Wireplay to name some oldies) everyone is crammed in one place so there should always be games to play instead of joining countless servers with bots running as space fillers >_<

I'm not saying openarena didnt have this... but it didnt look like it in the 5 mins i spent browsing the site :)
 
Just been playing this now, awesome stuff! I miss the days of simple quake 3 death match and so on. Works really well in browser, definatley be playing more later!
 
Had a go there as well, great fun. Looking forward to playing a lot more of this again. Hadn't got all my binds set up & it's funny how your fingers automatically go to where they used to be even though I haven't played in a few years.
 
Anyone else have problems changing the keys? The window pops up asking me to press the new key but it never registers.

The first time I tried the window froze & I couldn't change anything but then closed everything down, went back on & was able to change them ok.
