Quake Live

Can somebody tell me,

on the scores screen (in TDM for example)
the coloured arrows by each name , how does this work?
I am assuming it is some sort of skill level ?

I googled the answer but I cant find it

Just started playing and am finding it a hoot.

Seems very well polished now compared to the browser version from years ago.

Towards the end of my q3/ql days i only really played clan arena to mess about on but trying to get a game of CA on quakelive these days seems near to impossible.

any game to get going on QL now is near impossible :(

I preferred it before it was on steam permanently (even though I was running it on steam)
as I like the way of finding a game, as I like a lot of the team based games, now with the match browser, I cant find any anymore :(

It was better before they stripped the good maps out of the free version and made premium only. Also forced some terrible new maps into the rotations etc. Was enough to put me off and likely others too. Nobody wants a duel server without bloodrun on it :P

They removed "Premium" now so everyone has access to everything.

Can you elaborate?

Sorry, but just started playing.

When they first brought quakelive out to replace quake3 essentially it was the same game but in a browser and people generally moved over. You could play for free on FFA/Duel/TDM/CA/CTF servers, and callvote for map changes etc and all the maps you loved from quake 3 were there within a short period. Alternatively you could pay for premium to be able to enjoy the premium content like Freezetag etc and longer match history, as well as joining premium servers where you could then invite your free player mates to the server etc. Then there was the pro sub that allowed you to spawn your own servers/private or public to play on as and when you liked.

Then one day you log on and try to callvote a map only to find that callvote has been disabled, then the maps are put onto a 'free rotation' that puts random maps in that nobody wants to play as they arent the ones you would see in tournaments etc and you would be forced to play them. The tournament regulars were removed so unless you paid for a sub you could no longer just jump on in an evening for a few fun games.

Now i love quake and was happy to sub for most of my time, but when i had gone down to free due to not having as much time to play and then this happened, that was the nail in the coffin for me really, and i expect it was the same for a lot of people.

Now the game is all f2p again and the maps appear to be there, but the servers seem dead, and now this elo thing has been introduced which insta kicks you from servers full of people that you could no doubt annihilate but as you havent played you dont have an elo lol

Haven't played Quake 3 and then Quake Live for years. Started Q3 in 2002.

Quakecon 1 v 1 has been on all day on Twitch, I'm currently watching.

By the way you're not a proper Quake player until you can do Bridge to rail and back. :p
