Quakecon 2012 - John Carmack Keynote Speech

Doesn't look like that many are in the audience after all.

Sparse voxel octree sounds so cool. Huge jump from vertexes and fragments.

Think most people got up and left :(

Other than the fact I have been to the toilet twice over the course of the presentation, I would love to go and listen one day.

One guy in the chat wrote something along the lines of how is that asian guy going to understand his answer. I struggle and I am English. :D

"On there"...300....this is CARMACK! :D

Damn, he's finished. :(

I just don't get it though. He talked about not hyping Doom 4 so that it wouldn't lead to disappointment like RAGE, and instead talked about Doom 3 BFG and his VR headset.

Protip John: Whatever you talk about is going to build hype. Now everyone's just going to expect Doom 3 BFG to be special, or for you to reinvent gaming when your headset does eventually hit retail. :p

It's not his VR device though. He's only supporting it, as far as I know.

And like he said, it's nothing to get excited about for average consumers yet.

It isn't even a headset he is making for the public. He spent the time talking about his voyages into the realm of VR and what manufacturers should do. It was great from a techy/nerdy perspective, like how he scrapped the Sony headset together with a custom gyroscope and coded it himself to make it work.
