Yep, it's that time again. Quakecon starts today and the legendary Carmack keynote speech is at 5.30 eastern time which I make to be 10.30pm or 11.30pm GMT. Yippeee! :)

This is interesting. Anyone seen Pacific Rim? I have and apparently id software art director was responsible for the artwork!

On Saturday, Aug. 3 at 4 p.m. ET, id Software art director Hugo Martin will present "From Sketchbook to the Big Screen," a talk detailing how he designed concept art for the gigantic Jaegers mechs featured in Guillermo del Toro's recently released film, Pacific Rim.

Yeah, it'll be awesome if there's any Doom 4 updates! :) Doom 3 was one of the best FPS I ever played, even though many people thought it was meh.
 
Compared to every other game he made it was very meh. Just as it was getting good by going to the hell levels, it then crashes you back to Mars and you have to backtrack through levels you already played!!!!!!
 
I just remember the hype about Doom 3 being scary and when I got the game, I was very cowardly and scared to go into the first dark area of the game. :(:D

Excellent. I love the time of year where I get to listen to Carmack ramble about nerdy stuff for hours on end. It's great. :D
 
Zero4 is still playing at the top level! Mental, that's over 10 years he's been awesome at quake games!

Sadly the only other names I know are Vo0 and chaotix for that lot!
 
Just spotted this is on due to the Steam coverage. Eyeing up Quake 4 and/or Rage since they're discounted - opinions on either/both?

Rage is a great game although the ending lacks a little bit, megatexture was a great idea, hopefully it will be reutilised by Carmack in the future for doom 4!

Quake 4 is really getting on but it's not terrible. RAGE was a massive let down for me, like many. If you go in with low/no expectations, it might be a decent enough game. Personally, I played an hour or so and uninstalled it :(
 
I've been watching the quakelive duels all evening, they're on the second round now, double eliminations. Some great matches have been played so far! :)

Can't remember if I ever played against Zero4 or not its pretty insane hes still playing at that level - I burnt out after about 2 months of what it required to play at CPL top 20 kind of level.

EDIT: Think he used to play for either cloud9 or negative influence in CTF under another name actually (I played a lot of competitive CTF).
