I've recently been informed that I can get some sort of qualification for completing two years of uni and as its time to update the old CV and look for a new job I thought I could stick it on!

I did my first two years and passed, but due to several reasons did not pass my third year. I left uni without a degree and got a job as by that time I had lost the will to carry on at uni but just wanted to get out and work. I have no desire to go back to uni and do my third year as it has been several years since I finished. I've found out that for passing one year, I can get a certificate of higher education, but is there anything else for two years? Is it a foundation degree?

Cheers,
Andy

You might get a receipt, if you ask nicely...

Seriously, you'll probably get nothing. Some places will give you something or other, like a certificate of attendance, but it's probably pretty worthless I'm afraid.

Just thought it looks better to put that on my CV rather than just have it listed under education but not have any grade from it..

Depends on the course I suspect. On the course I was on you did receive a qualification after the second year if you passed whether or not you went on. This was made clear from the start so we all knew about it. Not a full degree but an HND (Higher National Diploma). Whether that would actually be worth the paper it's written on is a different question.

In scotland if you quit after 3 years you get some kind of HND or Non-honours type degree with no gradings, provided you passed sufficiently.
It is completely worthless though as it shows you're a failure or lack perseverance.

Probably best just to say you went traveling or something. But if I was you I would head back to uni ASAP. Otherwise those 2 years will just be wasted

Lying on your CV is far, far worse than not finishing Uni. You're better off putting the reasons for not finishing Uni. in the first place.

So because it wasn't all plain sailing for him and didn't work out made him a failure? Don't be so harsh.

He's far from it by the sounds of it.

wrong

3yr degree = is a general degree.
4 yr degree = honours degree.

Both still undergraduate degrees and certainly not worthless if you only do 3 years.....
Plenty of classmates of mine did a 3 year degree and went onto do things like teaching and such. Why do 4 years if you're not planning on doing postgraduate work in the subject? Even if you have a non-honours degree you can still do PG work.

In saying all that though degrees are way overrated imo.

edit: OP you might get some kind of Diploma. Ask the uni where you studied?

honours can depends on the uni.

At mine a honours is awarded if you complete the degree with resitting any years and without any gaps. So you do a 4 year degree in 4 years basically.
