Quality Monitor Advice

Well I called OCUK this morning, this is going back for a full refund. I'll go for the Asus instead :) Shame as the Dell's features are nice, lovely stand and all ports under the sun, doesn't help me much tho with the amount of bleed on it.

I'm doing the same. I will probably take a long diversion to work via OCUK next week and return the Dell and at the same time buy the Asus too, so I may have mine before you - here's hoping for a better outcome!

Edit: My 1000th post! Woo. :D:D:D

Guys I received my Asus PB278Q on Wednesday and i have 0 backlight bleed and certainly no yellow tint, and so far i have spotted 0 dead pixels.
It does seem to be a bit of a lottery but i'm very pleased with mine ......so far.

Encouraging! Fingers crossed for me and Wizzkidy. What are your impressions of the monitor after a couple of days of use? Recommended? Do you get a full set of cables with the Asus, inc Displayport?

Hi Credo

I think i received every cable you could think of including an audio cable as much to my surprise the monitor had speakers :)

It's stupid money to pay for a monitor but so far i'm not regretting it, I had a samsung cheap TN panel before and it was fine but i had backlight bleed around the edges, on the asus there appears to be virtually none plus the colours are so much more vibrant.

The only con so far is the buttons to adjust the menu etc are a bit clunky but you only really do that once so not a major issue. Oh and of course I may have to upgrade my graphics card to get the most out of the high resolution :)

I had looked at the dell but the Asus suited my needs better.

Yep, exactly the same as the U2713HM I sent back. Terrible backlight bleed and bright yellow glow in the bottom left hand corner. From my understanding, a significant amount of them are exactly like this. Bought a VP2770-LED in the end which does have some bleed bottom right although nowhere near as bad as the Dell.

Well then isn't life a funny old game? This morning I was fed up because my new screen is a bit of a duffer, and just now I've ordered the Samsung S27B970D that's on a mega deal at £499.00 pre-order! Needless to say an hysterical google seems to show it's a damn good screen, so hopefully this will be much better for just £60.00 more than the Dell, and only £40.00 more than the Asus I was going to buy in replacement.

Please tell me I did the right thing...!

That's a good price for the Samsung S27B970D will check it out was well over priced before.
You need good light room control because its like a mirror screen reflective has glossy screen.
Really nice looking monitor like the stand too hope you get a good one Credo.
This monitor or a Viewsonic VP2770 still not sure for me.

Another thread has popped up on here showing bad glow / bleed on a U2713hm. I'd avoid at the moment. Re. My impending Samsung - I usually use my main rig at night, and draw the curtains by day if I'm using it, so the glossy panel should be fine. I'll put up with a few reflections to be rid of that damned yellow glow!

I am in the market for a 1440p screen as well. It really seems like there is almost no choice.

That viewsonic seems to be out of stock everywhere.

the dell seems to have such bad bleed thats its not worth the effort,In case you have to swap it 5 times.

The asus has that pwm which may or may not affect you

the matte samsung is 800 quid

The current deal on that samsung here is a glossy panel! I also have a man cave.with the monitor back to the window and that has blinds and I can turn the lights off. Still wondering what arma3 at night will reflect like...

Never thought it would be so hard to spend 500 quid:)

Absolutely, it seems to be a product type that is fraught with problems. Reading the pcmonitors review of the glossy / non-glossy versions it seems the glossy has slightly punchier colours, the non-glossy less reflections. Still can't ignore this screen for £499, its like it was "meant to be" for my situation.

I wonder if I can get DPD to take my Dell back to OCUK when they deliver the Samsung?

I think this PWM thing is being blown out of proportion, a company as big as Asus would not release a monitor that gave everyone bad headaches.
It's a serious issue but only for those who potentially suffer migraines or a similar medical condition.
I have had the monitor for 4 days never noticed a thing.

As for the samsung the big price drop makes it a viable choice no question but i saw a review of it on youtube and the reflection was ridiculous the guy could see himself on the screen as he played games, of course he may well have been just highlighting this issue deliberately.

My personal preference is the matt screen with anti glare but not overly aggressive like the Dell's, the asus in this department has got it spot on.

12:20 today!

Excited and a little nervous. Blummin' monitors and their dead pixels etc!

Yup there is a nerve wracking moment when you boot up and try and spot backlight bleed then sit down on some site where it cycles full screen colours looking for dead pixels.
Even after you have convinced yourself there's none you keep thinking you've spotted something before realising its a bit of dust :)

Good luck & let us know how it goes.

I'm using it! I have to say first impressions are very positive. No dead pixels that I can spot, checked via a dead pixel spotting website. I'm in a daylight-lit room with a white wall behind me and unless I put a 100% black screen on the reflectivity of the glass in a non-issue so far. If I put the light on, which is directly above me and the screen. it's still fine on the OCUK grey / blue forum post screen.
The colours and clarity are stunning, helped no doubt by the glass screen. Physically it's lovely, a really premium bit of kit that is very 'Apple', all bar the Samsung logo.
I'm delighted, thanks OCUK for making such a great screen so accessible via an amazing offer!
