Quantum computing

I'm so excited... everyday i wake up and get excited about it, Crysis 2 at 60fps will one day be possible.

Is it weird that when I look at that I get an uncomfortable urge to go and fight some Decepticons?

Also yes, it's a very interesting concept the science behind which fortunately goes straight over my head.

I'm more interested in the scalability side of it here. Imagine buying your quantum computer in 10 years time and a year later wanting to upgrade it so you just add 100 more qubits via a module of some sort? You've just made your supercomputer XXtimes more powerful just like that?!

Will these make individual components on current PCs redundant? Stuff like graphics cards, physics and so on.

Hmmm!

So what will we do for security/encryption when these things really get scaled? Even WPA2 with a 256bit key won't be much use once the number of Qubits rises enough

Well quantum computers will be adapted to create new encryptions won't they :p

The company that finally hammers these out, well kiss goodbye most of the cpu's out there.

Fantastic news, so close to finally cracking it. Question now is how long before they're faster than a traditional pc.

When they get to 100 qubits, that's when they get competetive!

It's fast moving too, the article says 10yrs ago Quantum computing didn't exist and today it's been demonstrated with 10 qubits with the help of modern cellphone technology.

Imagine how amazing Angry Birds would look on a Quantum powered phone!

I bet we'll look back at Crysis and crease our foreheads in disgust in the same way we look at a troll thread on the forums :p

Indeed, 10 qbits today but when you look at the overall time it took to come up with this, could be just a matter of a few years before there's a commercially viable option, either way very exciting news as it's finally been cracked.

Games wise oh gawd, you could probably run the matrix off the thing in years to come.

Ai anyone?
