Quest 2 Virtual Desktop Performance Thread

It must be something only affecting some headsets. Have you tried a Factory Reset? I did have some issues on mine, but a factory reset sorted them out.

My Virtual desktop settings are.

Sliced Encoding on
VR Bitrate 98
VR graphics High
FPS 90.

In the Streamer
Automatic bitrate - off
Codec H.264

Thanks bud we have the same settings except Im at 100 vr bit rate which is neither here or there.

Its a very bizzare phenomenon.
Its not like the screen isnt rendering its not as a smooth transition as you pan your head across looking the floor.

You saying its ultra smooth in your case?

You mentioned you had some issues on yours. Today? What were they?

(sorry for the 20 questions!)

Once the game or new level is fully loaded in, it's very smooth.

No, no problems today, apart from a tracking issue that I am getting oculus to look into. My issues were when I put on the V23 update back in November. My Quest 2 just didn't work right. The reset fixed it right up. Doing the reset isn't a big deal. The hardest part is redownloading the games. If you are mainly doing PCVR games then it's very simple.

Very bizzare. Im thinking its a networking issue because it doesnt happen with the Link...

But then the game is rock solid 28ms-30ms latency....

If I turn on the video buffering it seems to be less prominent.

Can I just confirm again that you are physically moving yourself rather than just staying on the spot and just moving your head around when looking down?

I am not walking around, but I am not just moving my head. I am turning on the spot. Will try it again later with moving around.

Yes this is the point. Moving around WHILST looking downwards at the floor. Best described as jumpy motion.

Ive tried everything this morning. Changing network settings plugging the router in directly into the pc. Nothing everything is the same....
graphics settings have no impact at all.

I personally think this is a limitation of wireless pcvr.

Ok, I am after testing this, and it's the same result as my standing still tests. No judder or anything like that, apart from the first 10,20 seconds after loading into a new level.

And I realised when I tried today that my test yesterday was enough, because I move around a lot when playing Robo recall :)

Thanks for taking the time to test it melmac. Appreciate it.

I dont understand really. On Oculus Link its supersmooth
Over the wireless its also very smooth except for the above.

I can see the guardian lines on the floor are not mapping 1:1 to the ground when you move forwards and backwards.

Running out of ideas :\

If you have tried everything else, why don't you try a reset? It might not solve your problem, but, maybe it will. Remember, the wireless connection works both ways. So there could be a problem with your connection, but, it might not be anything to do with your PC or Router. It could be the wireless on the headset.

Thanks for the suggestion bud. I did try a reset (I reset it from the app?) is there like a hard reset?

You reset it from the Phone app? In the settings? Did you have to set it all up again?

If so, then, yeah, that's a hard reset. And I am all out of ideas at this stage :(

Yes correct I had to set it up all again, developer mode, sidequest, connect to PC etc etc.

Ive tried this on different wireless networks also...

I have to believe it is a networking related issue.....

This phenomenon doesnt occur with the Quest 2 games and the PCVR via Link cable.

I don't know, can't explain it, sorry. Maybe go on the Virtual desktop Discord? The developer is very active and might be able to help you out.

Youve done more than enough mel. Appreciate all your help.

Could it be a faulty headset?

Possibly, or maybe it's just one of those silly bugs that affect some people and not others, you know what I mean?

Like in that reddit thread you posted. Some people only started having the problem after the update. So maybe wait until the next update to see what happens?

Damn Gremlins!!

Yep I think you are right bud.

Ive got one more trick up my sleeve. Im going to try ALVR to see if the phenomenon replicates itself.

If it does, then I cant blame Virtual desktop and the blame has to be with some element of interaction between the update and the quest 2.

Ok I tried ALVR.
The phenomenon is there as well. If anything a little worse I would say.

Leads me to believe its software related, or perhaps software and the latest update/oculus.

Its truly bizzare because if I look ahead and move around, its super sweet smooth....

When you say problem after update you mean the quest 2 update?

Yeah the Quest 2 update in November.

ALVR has more latency than Virtual desktop anyway. So, I am not sure you can read too much into it.

And, in your last sentence is the solution!! Stop looking around while walking!! :p
