Quest 2 Virtual Desktop Performance Thread

Just did a little experiment of moving my pc & plugging it into the router directly. That has helped in terms of network figures, they are reduced to 11/12ms, so it looks like the Deco set up is playing a part.

The latency is no longer fluctuating but rock solid at 48ms, which is still higher than I'd like however.

Sorry, had to head away for a while. Your best bet is to buy a cheap AC/AXrouter and set it up as an Access point. Plug your Deco M5 puck into it and plug the PC into it.

That way you have a dedicated Router for the Quest 2 to use and still have internet access for both devices.

Great, thanks for your help.

Folks, I asked the question in networking forum about the below and was informed I should take the cable running from the my PC to the AX1800 AP.

Do you think this will impact the latency if I do this?

1. You don't need a cable going from your PC to the Super hub. So take that out.
2. You have the AX 1800 setup as an Access point, yeah? It's only for the Quest 2? If so then you should connect the the cable from the Ethernet port on the super hub to an ethernet port on the AX1800, not the Wan port.
3. If you don't have the AX1800 setup as an access point, set it up as an access point. And return to Step 2.

Don't over complicate things, if at all possible.

Yes Ive got the AX1800 setup as an AP. But I was under the impression that connecting it into the router would cause some conflicts with DHCP/nat setups.

Im definitely with you on not complicating things for sure melmac.

(Will give above a try in a few mins).

If you have it setup as an access point it should turn off DHCP and NAT. Just make sure the connection is from Yellow on the Superhub to Yellow on the AX1800.

So I tried it as you recommended melmac, seems to work well!

Only thing is I cant access the TP Link settings anymore, Im putting in the tplinkwifi.net address or the Ip address to get to it and I am not able to....
Any idea why?

Afternoon,

I have a Quest 2 (Which is pretty amazing as a stand alone unit!) But I want to use it with AMRA3 and play HL:Alyx.

I have a USB C cable (3.1 Gen 2 (Link) plugged in to my Z170-A mother board. This works fine with Oculus link, but when I try virtual Desk top not so much. When I start Virtual Desktop is tries to connect my headset to my OC via WIFI, and I'd rather use the cable, but I cannot see an option for this. Any ideas or is there a link to a FAQ / Guide?

Thanks in advance.

Mine sits around 20-23. Bog standard virgin hub, Quest 2 connected to 5ghz channel. It is flawless and no different from being plugged in.
What settings in virtual desktop? I really wonder how people are getting mid 20ms latency. Is this with the performance overlay from virtual desktop?

And the SH is which gen may I ask? The 5GHz I was getting from the SH2 was horid.

Why do you want to use virtual desktop with oculus link? Could you not use oculus link cable with steam vr?

I've just been playing dirt rally thru virtual desktop and it was great tho I did have headaches getting it all working with steam vr. Couldn't get assetto corsa working tho

Wow thats an incredibly low latency! Mine sits around 50ms which I happy with, I can play all my shooters and even Beat Saber without feeling handicapped by latency issues.

I think 50ms is because I have various things running on the same channel. Is this something you have done?

Hi Cavllino, I thought using VD would allow me to play non VR games using the headset as a screen and free look device.

I now have proper VR games working through the Oculus PC app, and just tried Propagation VR, so that is Steam VR games working. I just want to know how I get non VR games to play with a full headset view and view control as opposed to just viewing a curved PC screen (If possible)

Just waiting for Alyx to down load

Ahhh gotcha now, so you want to play non-VR games via the headset?

(Genuine question but why would you want to play non-VR games on a virtual screen, as opposed to your monitor may I ask?)

Here is a guide which I hope helps (I havent yet played Alyx, as Im just busy trying to get my setup just right).

I think if you just plug in your oculus link and oculus software, then load up steam and load Alyx, I think you should be good.

As to non-VR games, I think the guide should give you some pointer of what needs to be done, but I would cede to other members of OCUK who have better experience of this as I haven't had a go at this yet.

Sorry Cavallino, my unclear message.

Its just ARMA 3 really and maybe DCS world with my Headset. But Its just an idea.

You can play flat screen games for free in Big Screen VR, just run the app then start the game from the desktop. What's cool about BSVR is you can share the experience with friends or the general public if you wish. DCS has native VR support, in case you're unaware.

Arma 3 plays well in VR via VorpX if you ever want to go that route.
