Quest 2 Virtual Desktop Performance Thread

Hmmm not actually sure which dongle I'm using but it was a relatively cheap one from amazon supposedly 600mbs at 5ghz, Do you think its worth getting a better dongle? Not sure how good the wiring is in my house.

There is your problem with the hotspot. Your Wireless Dongle might say 600mbs on the package, but I would say it probably doesn't even reach half those speeds.

Not sure what to advise you to do :) It looks like no matter what way you go you are going to have to spend money. The cheapest way is to get either a good Wifi Dongle or PCIe card. The problem with this is they don't all work with windows 10 hotspots. I guess if you buy from somewhere with a good returns policy, you could try a better one and see does it work.

The best option is a dedicated router. But, you have problems if you go this way too. Ideally you really need to be hardwired back to the main router. Since you can't, you might consider buying two powerline adapters.

You could buy a router and try what you said above. But, YMMV if you set it up that way.

I dont get it.

Incidentally, I dug out my Q2 today and decided to have a play.

Is Airlink at the same level as VDesktop now?
If you fire up VD and check out the different environments, there are three modern apartments, day evening and night. The view from the apartment window is in Chicago at the location specified in the link. If you use street view you can see where it was filmed from.

It really depend on the use case, but many prefer VD as it has more options in the settings.

It's pretty darn epic!

Ironically its not the most advanced game when it comes to modern VR standards.

The gun is glued to one hand, you can't melee, and it's obvious it was designed for teleport and only later adapted to smooth movement.

But everything else is awesome and it most definitely should not be the first game anyone plays in VR as the vast majority of VR games are nowhere near as good.

Yeah fair points, I'm very sporadic in my playthrough and can go weeks to months between plays. So I momentarily forget how to play it, but every time once it clicks - I just think what a wonderful experience.

Need to give it a proper go with my 3070, heard nVidia are a bit better on the VR front (ran pretty well my previous V56).

I was testing PCVR on my Quest Pro with a link cable and fired up Alyx for a quick test. Was completely blown away by how amazing it looked, got mesmerised looking at a simple piece of combine resin, seeing all the grooves and translucency I'd not seen before and before I knew it I'd been playing for an hour.

Shi, what was the CPU usage when in VR using the 3600?
