Quest 2 Virtual Desktop Performance Thread

Assume this would be unplayable if pc to router was wifi and not LAN cable?

not necessarily unplayable but it will certainly have an effect, it depends what you are playing - if you can't run a cable from your existing router to your PC then you are better off getting a dedicated router to put near your PC and connect it to your wifi network as an access point / repeater

Anyone know what 5GHz wifi channels are allowed in the UK? Ive been reading an article that suggests using a channel outside of the normal range is likely to lead to best performance and won't automatically be selected by routers on auto modes. My router has channels from 36 up to 116.

Will be interesting to see the results!! Good luck with the setup :)
It went badly, complete disspointment. I only had two nodes where with the Bt i had 3. Anyway i expected its POWER to get over this after all the video and reviews ive seen.
It reall didnt, so if i had node 1 in the office and node 2 in my usual spot for vr (my old node was here too) vr was exactly the same as vr before (except a little better with stuff being used around the house) However my daughters bedroom could not get a strong enough signal in the attic for 4k streaming like it could before.
So moving the node into the bedroom where my usual node 3 would go, meant vr in the front room(just below) was crap and i mean really really crap, big black borders trying to catch up with the information.
I imagine if i had 3 nodes it would have been improved but at that kind of cost i could it was getting silly.
Might get a dedicated router and huge cable for when i want a decent long session on vr, but really its for iracing and thats covered anyway.

Ah, that sucks. But, sometimes it's good to try these things, at least you know now!!

A dedicated router/access point is probably the best bet. Especially if you can run a cable to it.

I believe according to UK regulations you can use DFS channels (52-140) with 80Mhz bandwidth, if you're using 160mhz you can go up to channel 64. This is information I pulled from:
https://community.hihonor.com/unite...l-Original-question-edited/topicId-23481/abc/

If your router lets you do it just do it, I think if there's interference with airport radars then the channel is blocked anyway.

If DFS is enabled on an access point (or bridge unit in access point mode) then the device when it first selects a channel will initially listen for a short period of time to ensure that it is not picking up any radar signals. If radar is detected then a different channel will be used. If the airwaves look clear on that channel then it will remain on the channel. However if radar is later detected then the device will shift to another channel.

Trying things has been fun, in isolation for two weeks so this has been passing time.
Sending those back (once out of isolation) Ordered a much cheaper router, got a long ethernet, so will see how this version goes. If it works well ill look at hard wiring it at some point, but for now ill run the wire across the hall when i want to VD.
ps now i can buy a new gpu a bit quicker so its not a bad thing all round. 980ti has served me well.

Not at all, works perfectly fine for me on 5ghz bt home hub. Get about 71mbps on vr streaming with the pc upstairs with around 600mbps link and the headset reporting around 800mbps.

Confused, bought VD from the store on my PC, cant see how to install on the headset, do I have to install on the headset.....

On the Quest it still says £14.99 but on the oculus app its there.

*edit, possibly bought the wrong one, Rift version....

I did exactly the same last night, you need to buy the quest version and then install the pc streamign client from the vd website.

Sounds like you have . You need to purchase VD via your quest and it installs on your headset. You then need to install side quest, connect your headset to your pc and install VD from sidequest to patch it

Performance has increased since the latest update the other day.
I can crank my stream mbs upto 100+ without any stutter now :)

Playing beat saber at anything above 75 streaming was giving me slight micro stutters but now i can play it at 120 no problem. I even cracked it upto the max 150 , it was playable, latency was ok but micro stutters appeared.

Honor 3 router is performing well
