Quest 2 Virtual Desktop Performance Thread

Hmm fair enough but thing is.... in Elite Dangerous if I look down at controls, it also does the same thing.
Suppose I can use Oculus Link when sat down of course.

But still its a pain in the bum and Id like to know whats causing it... since everything else is working fine, and when I come to play games like Half Life Alyx Im sure Im going to have to look down a fair bit!

In Virtual desktop, can you tell me what settings you are using. Both in the Streaming section and the settings section.

And something to try, is to enable Performance Overlay in the Streaming settings. Then start a game, and it should show what areas are the worst. Encoding, decoding, Network or game.

When you report back with some of those values, we can work on something to try and solve the issues.

Excuse me my late reply, I was going deeper and deeper in configs to find solution.
Finaly today my friend came over witch his gaming laptop, connect over my dedicated AP and got 23ms latency not even by hard wire.

I gues my 295x2 is simple not suported. I rise a ticket witch oculus to see if it will be supported at some point. And now wondering between never GPU or Gaming laptop

Finally got it sorted!

PC on 5Ghz channel, Quest 2 on 5Ghz, loaded Virtual Desktop patch for Steam VR and can now play HL ALYX wireless down stairs while the PC is upstairs!

It does have a little stutter now and again, but no probs!

Just need to get MSFS 2020 sorted now!
 
Good job Dan. Is the stutter like every few mins or so?

How did you connect your PC upstairs to the router downstairs? Homeplugs I think?

Hows your latency and which homeplugs are you using?

Disclaimer: I love PCs and Tech but I'm more trial and error!

So Virgin super hub V3 wired to this "TP-Link Archer AX50 Next-Gen WiFi 6 Gigabit Dual Band Wireless Cable Router," and these are my wall links "TP-Link TL-PA4010PKIT Passthrough Powerline Adapter Starter Kit"

This is down stairs in the front room in the worst position. The TP links are up stairs and TBH don't offer any faster speed that WIFI, the 5GHZ signal from the router gets to my PC. I have a TP link Range extender form 2005 that is linked to 2.4Ghz and is pretty pump. I have no idea why the 5GHz is so strong, but it is.

So I have just linked the PC and Quest 2 to the 5GHz signal and wasted about £110 of 4 TP links and a WIFI range extender.

I played for about 20 mins then felt a bit sick, the stuttering seemed to come and go. Not sure if I noticed it due to the duration of playing.

Incidentally one of the YT "VR" reviewers (cant remember his name) did a piece on routers and mentioned that the AX50 is not the one to go for compared to the AX20 and AX10?
(Something about the processing power).

That being said, I cant see there being a big difference in performance.

No chance to run a bit of cable from the router up to your PC?

(Thats what I did many years ago in my previous house).

On the homeplugs, honestly speaking, I found nothing beats the Devolo range.
Ive never got on with TP Link if I am brutally honest.

I can easily get speed in excess of a gigabit between Homeplugs (depending on location of course!) with the their magic 2 2.4gbps range.

I wouldn't know a good router if it dropped on my head. My mate who installs VTC equipment advised a £300 one. Which I can not justify. I got the AX50 based on reviews, it was down form £170 to £100 on Amazon, £160 ish on here. There is something going on here at Chez SG as the speed fluctuates randomly.

Arrogantly I can play VR wirelessly, We can both do our work, stream crap on TV and play GTA V Online (XBOX One) so I'm happy, splitting channels is beyond me!
 
On another note....

I swear the new V25 software has caused "stuttering" in the main Oculus Quest menu.
(When I force 72Hz in Sidequest it goes ultra smooth and not stuttery).

Anyone else experienced this?
 
Hi everyone !
I have the same micro stuttering issue and it is driving me mad.
First, here are my pc specs:
9900k 5.0ghz
3090 rtx
32 go 4100mhz cl15

I have tried 2 different Asus routers so far, AX55 and AX58U and I will soon be able to try with the AX86U.
I feel like I've read and tried everything on the subject except a factory reset.
I have the ideal configuration, a router dedicated to the headset and I have optimized everything as best as possible, even the DFS channel.

This issue appears even on the lowest streaming and bitrate settings. It happens mostly when physically crouching, strafing or moving my head from one side to another. It even happens when I move forward with the stick. When looking at the VD monitoring, the issue goes with a drop in frames and a sudden spike in networking.
My quest 2 software is v23.
Has anyone who had this problem been able to resolve it ? It is really annoying. The headset works perfectly with the link by the way... thank you !
 
Hello Hsmz, we are in the same boat I think and I strongly believe we are not alone.

I got a high speced rig like yourself as well.

I dont think its router related as I have tried several routes with the same effect.

For me its looking towards the ground and seeing juddering more than stuttering (suttering suggests the view freezes and then moves, whereas what I am experiencing is more related to a "low refresh rate" type of judder if you like?

Indeed with the link everything is fine but aside from that Ive not been able to resolve this.

Perhaps I am being too picky :p
 
If you check the version number of the software in the about section on the Quest 2 Home page ITHINK.. it says something like 25.XXXXXX
25 being V25.

Again, I think!

I think you are right, a better router won’t solve the problem but I am a bit desperate at this point !
Have you looked at VR pre rendered frames or disabled any sort of low latency mode in your gpu drivers ?

With what I experienced and tried I came to the conclusion that it was most probably headset related.
Some gaming sessions contain less micro stutter than others, sometimes I get stutter once or twice a minute, sometimes once or twice every 5-10 seconds.
I will try a factory reset later in the day and tell you if it did anything.

Well except for the ULL mode in the Nvidia drivers, I cant think of anything..

Funny story.... I even noticed the judder at the Home Screen for the Quest.

Im actually ordering another Quest to preclude if its not just the unit.
 
back when i updated to v23, i had similar issues, tracking glitches, especially when looking down at the ground. It was far more obvious when using virtual desktop.

The only thing that fixed it was a factory reset of the quest.
 
Yeah through the app. downside is losing all your game saves and having to reinstall everything but as i use it mostly for virtual desktop it wasn't too bad.

It definitely fixed my issues though, cant say if it will for you but its worth a shot as a last resort.
