Quest 3 owners etc

I had a load of youtube videos and music that I downloaded to the headset and then watched them on the big TV in the Virtual Desktop apartment environment.
Forgot that I was in a plane at times.

I always keep pass through on, don't want to miss out on drinks etc!

Though virtual background probably helps with avoiding disconcerting depth differences when watching a film etc.

Don't suppose anyone has a Demeo referral code going? I can see there is a bundle sale on at the moment for £25 for the 2 games, but not sure I would ever use both?

So I can't see my referrals for apps anymore... I do think you need to follow me, so maybe if you try following me ( RugbyRaggs ) it may show up?

It really depends on your gaming habits. Virtually all meta games now use cloud saves, so uninstalling/reinstalling is no issue. It's only if you're someone who often swaps between several big games, that this would be an issue.

I've got Asgards Wrath 2 installed, Star wars tales of galaxy edge, walkabout, breachers, demeo, rec room, beat saber, pistol whip and some others I'm sure, all installed, and it does me fine. When batman comes out, I'll likely uninstall one of them (or make more of an effort to finish AW2 or SWtoge).

You are right, it is doable. I remind myself about that with my Steam collection of games installed against that I play. Having a FTTP for Steam helps, and having some decent storage does as well.
Our headset has a very wide range of games, catering for grandchildren, older children, myself and my wife. Not all at once, I know, but the type of mixed use that would now benefit from more than 128GB.

That's a fair issue, more than one user adds more strain. Thankfully my boy has his own headset (64gb q2!), got another 64gb q2 now as well, just dodgy controllers, plan on replacing the joysticks in the hope that I can restore it.

I was just watching a Oculus repair channel on YT where he illustrates repairing Quest headsets. The latest being battery replacement for the Q2. I noted the absolute detail and stripping down that is need, his video being a better warning to NOT attempt the repair then any tamper proof screws or stickers etc could possibly do, lol. He replied, "If it was easy I would be out of work", fair point...!

How "decent" is a Q2 compared to the Q3 in terms of visuals..?

I've stripped the q2 controllers down to the point of taking the joystick caps off already, they aren't getting used anyway, so I figure it's worth a shot. I've replaced screens/mainboards in phones before as well. It's mostly a matter of patience.

Q3 can process a lot more visually, looks quite a bit prettier, but the biggest jump is the clarity of the lenses, suddenly edge to edge is virtually clear. Which has a negative, suddenly fixed foveated rendering becomes very obvious on games that haven't been updated for the q3, as you have this relatively small circle of good visuals, then a very jarring line where it becomes very pixelated. You don't see it on the q2 as much, since the fresnel lenses have already blurred it up.

This was the repair video, and channel, noted for the battery replacement....

I was surprised at how much stripping down was needed before the battery could be replaced, not really being accessible for an easy to replace solution.

Interesting that the improved lenses on the Q3 can, in some situations, reveal some shortcomings in previously coded Q2 titles.

The longer I hold onto the headsets, the more likely I'll be to try that. They'll be worth less as resale anyway, and it's a fun little project.

I've seen a few quest pro controllers for sale (broken ones), but the stripdown on them looks insane, and I can't find replacement parts for the bits that are broken, so I don't think I'll be trying that.

You could do with one of these boxes.....

point taken on the project, if you have the time and patience - as well as the video noted for guidance.

That's pretty cool! I'd definitely start off with the "stick drift" ones. Quick squirt of cleaner, and give it a go, then replacement joystick. Will not link sounds a lot tougher though, not sure how to try and deal with that. If you can fix them, you could easily sell the working ones for £40/£50 a piece, depending on how much the box cost, might be able to make some money!

You can then have some fun trying to swap out the innards between the chewed and the will not link ones.

I love the pro controllers, despite their foibles, but it really irks that a £150 pro controller uses the same drift prone sticks as cheaper ones. Why these don't use hall-effect sticks, I don't know. And of course the Pro controller has a built in battery which essentially makes it a limited life item anyway, as it's almost impossible to replace unless you're expert at disassembling and re-assembling complex electronics.
These devices should be made easier to repair. At least the Pro headset has a battery in the back where it's easier to replace (though getting hold of the replacement might be tricky).

The pro controller breakdown looks really intense, definitely not easy to replace the batteries there!

Am I missing something, or does Meta Quest + (Which I just remembered to redeem my free 6 months of) only have 15 games on it? Seems a bit pap compared to something like MS gamepass!
Any of them particularly worth downloading?
Every two weeks they add 2 games to your personal collection, if you remember to redeem them. The longer you keep it, the more you have.

Right, decided I'm going to take the dive and get a Q3 soon, but I have a question around "where" to buy games. I have a decent PC (5800x3D with 4090) and the first game I'm going to buy is Shooty Fruity, as I have great memories of getting it at eurogamer. Do I get it on Steam and limit myself to playing it on PC (but probably at 'max' quality) or get it from the meta store? What do people do in this situation?

For simpler games I'd suggest standalone. I'd also suggest looking to see if they're crossbuy, so if you buy one version, you get the other free, so you can use that for pcvr/standalone.

Fixed :)

In order of what I did:

1. Update drivers
2. Reviewed oculus files got rid of any historic temp folders.
3. Restarted pc.
4. Restarted router and switch.
5. Connected via link cable tested this- bizarrely it asked me to re-identify the quest 3 even though it was paired already. Link cable worked fine.
6. Tested airlink - this time no lag , few odd artifacts but working.
7. Went back to VD. Put manual bitrate put it up to 150.
8. Tested hf alyx. All fixed.
9. Put up graphics to high - no issues.

Thanks all.

Now when do you guys meet up for your weekly vr gaming night?

Monday's at 8pm. Walkabout mini golf, private room, name is: ocuk

I may be in danger of getting addicted to Puzzling Places.
It would be just like me to drop £450 on a VR headset and then use it to do jigsaws. I did the same thing when I got my Switch and found myself almost exclusively playing logic puzzle games on it. :)

Someone above called it a mixed reality game though - does that mean no game background, just seeing your room through it? And if so, is there a setting I'm missing, because it's showing a full game view for me.

The controls on this game are absolutely perfect though. I know it's only a jigsaw, but you feel like Tom Cruise from Minority Report it's so slick. :)

£400 to play walkabout minigolf here :D. Though I do occasionally play other things. Puzzling places is awesome, great for travel.

Had a weird dream about VR last night and decided to just go for it and see how I like it.

Is it right there is an app now for pc link so I only need a USB C cable to get clearer picture? Sounds weird to me as I thought it would plug into the GPU but what do I know.

Yes it can do PCVR, you can either do it through a USB cable, or better yet, through a good quality router for wireless. There is some compression compared to proper wired headsets, but the freedom of wireless is worth it for most people.

Make sure when you setup the headset, you use a referral code, ask a friend if they have a headset already, if not, feel free to DM me and I'll send you mine. It'll get you both £23 store credit to spend on games.

Thanks. Just looking at some 'must have' accessories type stuff. Though I won't be getting any straps or things for comfort etc until I've tested it out the box to gauge if I want to tweak anything.

I just have the router that came with my Virgin 1GB and my PC is very close to it.

Thanks for the referral tip, please send me a code via DM :)

Personally I've gone cheaper for most the accessories. I bought a little rubberised skull cap to go on the back at first, now upgraded that to a well padded Elite style strap (clamps the headset to your face), and using a elasticated universal powerbank holder for the powerbank on the back to act as a counterweight. Think it was about £15-£20. Halo straps go across your forehead, and more have the headset floating on your face. Different people prefer different styles.

We've got a social gaming group thread here, we normally play Monday evenings, often Walkabout Mini golf (great game), but there's a racing group, and we're getting big numbers now, I'm sure if you fancy a game of something just post on there and someone might be able to join in.

Thanks for replying

I should add, my wifi is currently shocking (My PC is wired straight to the hub). If I upgrade my Wifi anyway (something i'm planning to do regardless), will it operate wirelessly on the same wifi network as long as i've got a decent connection (70mbps?) to the main router? I've seen that some people run a dedicated router from their PC to the headset as an alternative - happy to explore this as an option as well.

PC being hardwired is good. What is your hub at the moment? And where? If it does wifi 5, and where you're planning on playing, it's probably good enough. You'll need another solution for games at your PC, but if they're racing games, you might be able to just use a USB cable and not really notice it.

Haven't tried PSVR2, and it is meant to be very nice in terms of brightness and OLED, but Q3 lenses (not 3s) are special, and being able to use it wireless, and standalone, is really nice. You've just been sold by trying a q2, which was likely a standalone experience, there are a ton of solid games.#

EDIT - And don't forget to get a referral code off your mate, so you both get £23 free credit to spend on games. Like walkabout mini golf, that you can play every monday evening (well not every, we do other stuff sometimes) with a group of us!
