Obviously not a vr enthusiast writer as he misses out some key points but some interesting things raised.

No tracking rings, but also no cameras in the controllers...

No eye tracking.

Feels lighter but apparently not a huge improvement in resolution.

Can use phone in passthrough.

Doesn't comment ( that I saw) on fov, lenses, Hz, screen type.

Hmm so what is the Quest 3 offering over the Quest 2? Doesn't seem like a great upgrade and its been nearly 2 years.

Edit: 3 years!

The Oculus Pro, which is more expensive than the Quest 3 most likely, is sadly a good blueprint for the maximum expectation and spec list for the Quest line.
They seem more mobile-game Beat-Saber focussed and social media based than bringing the next full fidelity Skyrim VR to our experiences.

I sadly don't expect much other than incremental upgrades in the Quest line. The main reason being that dirt-cheap price point. Its just going to be impossible to offer something competitive at that price.

If it matches the resolution and clarity of the Pro at half the price I'll be surprised, I'd expect it to be a tad worse on both fronts.

It'll be interesting how it performs compared to the Pro, but it will have the advantage of being a mass-market headset, so there will be more developers using its power. Though I expect games to be hobbled by having to support Quest 2 until there are enough quest 3s sold to make it worthwhile for Quest 3 exclusives.

Don't know about hobbled, suspect there'll be two versions, one with upgraded graphics.

So it's probably going to be similar to the quest 2 but just cheaper

To call this a competitor to the Apple headset is wild, which makes me think the author doesn't know what they are talking about

There is no world in which a $300/400 headset competes with a $3000 headset. The MicroLED screens alone in the Apple headset will cost more than the entire quest 3. And the SoC chip inside the Apple headset costs almost as much to produce as the entire quest 3

I'll be smashing the F5 button on whatever website in order to try to buy the Quest 3 on day 1. I bet the display is better than the Q2 (might not be as good as the Q Pro), going by the content of the preview the Bloomberg journalist wrote he doesn't seem experienced with VR and may not be able to tell much difference between certain headsets. The passthrough being good is a good sign imo, I'm looking forward to trying some AR/MR games/apps.

Wish Apple's headset would be compatible with PC for gaming but thats a long long long shot.

This must be a very early prototype. I can't believe that there won't a significant jump in clarity over the Quest 2. If you kept everything the same and just put pancake lenses into the Quest 2, there would be a significant increase in clarity. So, I am guessing that the prototype didn't have good lenses.

I am not expecting much of an increase in resolution over the Quest 2. They are limited to what they can do. To get better games they need more performance.

If they can make the Quest 3 with the same resolution as the Quest 2, a small improvement in black levels/colours, pancake lenses, lighter and close to twice the performance of the Quest 2, that will be a pretty good headset!!

Considering everything else Bloomberg have published in regards to their speculative articles on VR product and services in the last couple of months that have either been redacted or rubbished rights holders or the sources their leaning on, why are you all bothering with this.

They've written tosh about Sony and Oculus in the last months, and that article reads like a made up piece of splicing information together rather poorly.

higher resolution means lower framerate so very mixed about it

Also as the Quest Pro shows, raw resolution isn't everything. On paper it's actually smaller than Q2, in reality it looks massively clearer and sharper than the majority of headsets out there. It really depends on what the panels are like. (if it is panels and not a single panel)

500 smackeroonies for the base model, ouch. Think I paid £299 for my 64GB, so the 128GB must have be have been £399.

I'll probably get one but in no rush, default head strap looks just as bog standard as the Q2s.

No info on what panel(s) it'll have yet. The controllers look like melted versions of the Pro controllers. I wonder how they track?

Looks good though. I will probably get one at some point to replace my Quest 2 which is used for MP.

i hope prescription lense inserts can be fittted to it, doesn't seem like there's a place to clip them on like you can with other hmd's.
