Just two quick questions about Sky. Firstly, there is a single coax port on the wall, so if I got a coax splitter would that work with the two ports on the STB, also what is the best place to get coax cables and splitters. Secondly, if I took my STB to another address and connected on demand but not the phone line, would Sky track the ip?

No, you're limited to knocking the box into single LNB mode and watching what you record.

That's kind of lame, what's is the point of going to all the trouble of installing a dish and only having one connection to each property. So there is no way I can use two inputs?

They don't do anything for a while, it is not permanent and all they will do is ask me to plug it back in.

I turned one of my boxes off for a week when I was I'll and stuck in bed.

when I turned it back on most of the channels were missing, they will think your splitting the costs with a friend ect.

Well I am happy to transfer the account and install it myself, but Sky states there is a need for an engineer's visit.

well that takes the P doesn't it, stuff that I'd do it myself then phone and transfer the account.

Is there a reason why an engineer is needed? Other than money that is;)

Not that I can see, there is already the input connected on the wall, all I would need is a coaxial cable which I can get for like £2. There is nothing to install, nothing to deliver, all they will do is give (or charge) me a cable, connect it, not wait to see if it actually works, then leave. And for that £25, £25 that I am not prepared to pay.

My sky box has never been connected to a phone line, we take it to our other house at weekends, connect to on demand, had 0 issues from Sky.

Second house has a single feed, so you need to watch what you record.

On demand recordings made from one internet connection work when connected to another.

Multi room box has to be connected to phone line (the boxes do call backs everyday and yes they do issue out fines but it's usually after 2 warnings then fine with service cut off)

Single box does not need connection to phone.

Think you'll find it's your phone line not IP address.

As soon as you unplug the box from the phone socket they will know.

It's no longer a requirements for them both to be plugged into the same phone line - they now use the Internet as all new Sky boxes are WiFi enabled. At least for new contracts - unsure how excising non-Internet enabled boxes are effected by the change.

Via either method they will not know the moment you unplug it. The boxes call home every so often (usually once or twice a month) and if they are not from the same phone number/IP then Sky go nuts.
