Question about Sky

Multi room box has to be connected to phone line (the boxes do call backs everyday and yes they do issue out fines but it's usually after 2 warnings then fine with service cut off)

Single box does not need connection to phone.

It's no longer a requirements for them both to be plugged into the same phone line - they now use the Internet as all new Sky boxes are WiFi enabled. At least for new contracts - unsure how excising non-Internet enabled boxes are effected by the change.

Via either method they will not know the moment you unplug it. The boxes call home every so often (usually once or twice a month) and if they are not from the same phone number/IP then Sky go nuts.

Well like I said, I am happy to transfer the account, but not at the expensive of an engineer's visit and then another one later on when I take it back.

Source? It's the first I've heard of this, that's all. Just because the boxes can be connected to the internet doesn't necessarily mean they would be.

The Multiscreen boxes aren't wi-fi enabled so I don't see how this is even possible.

Not sure what the Multiscreen boxes you are referring to are, but I have two normal HD STBs.

Sigh. Boxes callback once a month to verify they are in the same location (same number, same house) and to check for any Box Office/PPV use.

If a box misses a monthly callback this is noted on the system but at that point Sky do nothing. Only on a second missed callback do Sky take note. They pick a few thousand missed callbacks every few months to letter but there are many thousands more who don't get a letter.

In terms of the OP relocating the box on a temporary basis without connecting to the phone line or to On Demand, how would Sky be able to tell exactly? There is no return path to Sky via the dish.

Well I have connected it and it works, although the signal strength is not that good and I only have one input, it would be nice to have on demand though.

In all honesty connecting to On Demand (AFAIK!) doesn't do anything either. Only boxes installed after 18th December last year can use On Demand for 'callbacks'.
