If you were sharing a terraced house with three other people, i.e. 4 sharing in total with one living downstairs and 3 living upstairs.

You already have a combined toilet/bathroom with shower upstairs and an open plan kitchen/living area, would you prefer:-

-an additional toilet/washhand basin downstairs
(or)
-an additional shower room downstairs (no toilet).

Basically there is only room for one or the other. Which would you prefer?. Particularly interested in comments from people with first hand expereince of this.

You can **** in a shower, but not shower in a toilet... :p :D

No swearing.

Sorry, wasn't thinking properly when I posted :o

Just what I was about to say :D

But yeah probably a toilet.

Edit: Our new house is 3 floors, 2 bedrooms on each, and a bathroom on each, so we arent really limited, but I think thats what would annoy me most.

hard one this. Last year we had 2 bathrooms which was nice in a way. I'd probably go for a toilet though (although is there absolutely no way of fitting both in? then you could say the house has 2 bathrooms = more rent).

Another vote for Toilet, last year we had a 2nd bathroom with just a toilet in which came in very handy and allowed me to sit on the loo playing the old gameboy for much longer.

I'd say a toilet. As said - when you gotta go, you gotta go.

I share a house with 6 rooms (but only 5 people atm). We have a full bathroom upstairs (toilet+bath/shower), plus a shower room upstairs, plus a toilet downstairs. Works nicely, even considering most people use the shower in the full bathroom and not the shower room.

Everyone's on different timetables so there's rarely problems with people getting through the bathroom in the morning.

LOGICALLY/WITHOUT-A-DOUBT an additional toilet/washhand basin downstairs! Too many nightmares of old student house where had to hold it until person showering finished :(

Definitely a shower.... though if you're students you probably would only have one shower a week.

Yeah, as a student, worst comes to worse, some deodorant and your on your way to lecture! Night out before, and you NEED that toilet the next morning!

I've just finished hunting for a new shared house and TOILET is my pick everytime!
Like someone else said, when you need to go ..... plus stench avoidance

Blunt.. but very true. Listen to this man!

when you really NEEEEEEEED to ****, you need to go.

When you NEEEEEED a shower, you can wait.

The most important thing needed next to the Loo is a magazine rack, full of lads mags and TV listings papers.

The toilet, however it probably requires more cleaning :p We have a loo under the stairs as well as upstairs. Think of it....it's the world cup....England need a goal in the last 5 mins and you need the loo....upstairs or down? :D

Another toilet for sure. Just think, if someone has been sick or such in a toilet after a heavy night out, you dont have to clean it before you use it.

Toilet

But why not go european and get one of those bathrooms that is fully tiled with a drain in the middle, so you just shower in the middle of it and still have room for a toilet. Yes it all gets wet, but the house we had in greece was like that and I thought it was a good idea.
