Question for any students or others in shared housing

Toilet

But why not go european and get one of those bathrooms that is fully tiled with a drain in the middle, so you just shower in the middle of it and still have room for a toilet. Yes it all gets wet, but the house we had in greece was like that and I thought it was a good idea.

Yeah got one of those! WetRooms are fantastic!!

good idea, actually had it in halls. But I presume the landlord is asking the tennants about it so its installed over the holiday, it's more one of the other, not enough budget for both.

You don't know student life very well do you :p

That'd be why you wouldn't want it :p

I'm a student and our house is pretty much spotless :) I'm a bit of a slave driver though when it comes to cleanliness

Exactly the same way we think in Turkey, awesome idea and I don't know developers don't build bathroom like that here???

Thanks all. Very interesting.

We thought of a wetroom which is, like you say, basically a shower with a toilet in it. There is maybe just about room for it and I would pay for it if I thought it would be a success.

The reason I dismissed it is becuase in a heavily shared house I thought things like this are a nightmare to keep clean. They are frequently soaking and people going in with muddy/dirty shoes for a quick leak, maybe occasionally missing and adding to the wet on the floor, so that the next person showering doesnt know if hes standing in water or what, and causes it to rapidly start looking like a dump, unless almost everyone in the house is very careful to keep it clean. Intrigued to hear they have them in halls. If you had Phil around it would be fine. (Phil just ask if you are ever looking for a house in Withington :) )

Otherwise I would agree that the toilet makes the most logical sense, seeing as it will probably get used several times a day wheras a shower perhaps by one or two people once a day. I could add a bit of a washhand basin with mirror so people could have a wash/shave there if necessary.

But people arent logical so perhaps a shower would be better. Also, there is the more cleaning needed argument particularly as the toilet will be opening into the living area and you dont want it smelling. Also I have had it from a landlord with about 40 houses that an extra shower makes houses very easy to let.

I might put the different floorplans up later for comment.

Toilet. Thankfully my house has bathrooms up and down. Baths included. Between 6 of us, it is needed ;)

My mate at uni has 2 showers and 2 toilets (3 storey house, 1 set on first floor, other set on top floor). The upstairs shower is pointless as there isn't enough pressure to have both going at the same time so I'd go for just a toilet.

Something to think about anyway :)
