Question for the Mods and closing threads

Right, what's going on with swearing and partially disguised swearing then?

Mods are doing it now, so which is it? Can someone answer this?

"Do as I say and not as I do" isn't great when it comes to rules.

I think I may know what you're on about but at the same time he did at least give a reason for the closed thread.

It's always been the same. If you swear, star the whole of the core swear word. Adding an 'ing' on the end of stars is acceptable. Crap isn't a swear word.

I think that's about it.

Adding ing on the end is not acceptable, I've had a suspension for that before so I would like the mods to clarify.

I need to rant about an unrelated topic. The search function aghhhhh

Do you know where your meat comes from

The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search: Do, you, know, where, your, comes, from

Great so I can search for meat useful.

I see my tinkering with the acceptable search words is working then

Slightly more seriously though, there are some words that if included would probably cause major performance issues due to how common they are, and all of the ones you've listed look like ones I'd expect.
I think if you do it in quotes so it's a string rather than a selection of individual words it allows it.

Perhaps when so many are included though it could search for them. In speech marks

The search term you specified ("do*you*know*where*your*meat*comes*from") is under the minimum word length (2) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer.

could be worse. try searching for The Who

Bear in mind Mods don't always have the time to reply to a closed thread - it's sometimes better to contain the thread, close it rather than wait to do something about it and let it get out of control.

That's fine but presumably there would be nothing to stop the moderator from editing the final post at their leisure after the thread has been closed?

As for the search function, it is definitely flawed when it comes to searching for short phrases that in themselves are fairly rare strings

Adding an 'ing' on the end is acceptable and always has been as far as I'm aware, I haven't checked your user notes and even if I did it might not say precisely the phrase but if for instance you'd put down the starting letter, three asterisks then the 'ing' that wouldn't be ok.

s

It's possible but it relies on the moderator remembering, there may be several hours elapsed between closing a thread and having sufficient leisure to do that though.
