So 11 months after purchase, one of the 2 x 3TB Seagate Barracudas in my Synology DS411j has started playing up and the Smart Test says I need to replace it. I suppose I should have listened to all the advice about not buying these drives, I guess lesson learned

Can anybody with a similar NAS confirm whether I can just rip out the faulty drive and send it back to Seagate and whether that will leave the NAS operational, albeit without data protection. If I then either buy a new Western Digital Red to drop in or wait for the replacement drive, can I then just plug the new one in and it will all rebuild itself? When I started, I just went for the SHR option so I gather the above is how it should all work, but I'd like confirmation.

Just about to setup a backup now for the data onto an external drive, which is gonna take all night I guess
