Yo negros.

Got a question, well actually a request for all you folk with trip computers. Does it tell you what the lifetime average mpg is? If so, what does it say you've done compared to the manufacturer's mpg?

I have two consumption figures, both are user resettable.

One I have left since I reset it when I purchased the car (June), and one I reset every time I do a journey that I want to know the MPG for.

Mine is pretty much bang on the money for the manufacturers combined cycle, but I could get it way way way above that figure if I drove somewhat more sensibly.

i'm getting around 25.5mpg for a suggested combined of 26.7mpg although that can easily go upto 27 if the amount of traffic drops (school holidays)

Yeah mines the same, i have a "your current journey" mpg and an overall one that seems to reset itself every 3000miles or so. Most ive seen the overall mpg at is 47.9 which is 0.8 over the official figure, however i was doing around 3000miles a month at that stage, now working from home and dont have to travel so mpg has dropped to around 38.

Depends on the system, my current car just has an MPG since last reset. My last car had instantaneous mpg (very handy when you're on an eco drive!) as well as mpg since last reset. Others will have 2 user resettable (BMW mainly I think but I've seen it on Pugs), others have one resettable and one current trip - based on engine start time.

I doubt any will have MPG over the lifetime of the car, unless it's never been reset or the battery disconnected

The 1.8 Mondeo mk3 apparently gets 37mpg combined on the official figures, my one is currently reading about 31.5 I think, lots of short trips to work are killing the poor thing though! Managing about 350 miles a tank at best >_>

My girlfriends 500 combined figure is 55.4, last I checked, hers was 42.6mpg, but her driving probably steers towards more urban (44.1)than motorway. And the aircon is on all the time which will reduce the figure somewhat.

Are there databases that are available to get hold of this information? Not wholly reliable I know, unless photos were provided to prove the trip computer record was right, but would be interested to know how realistic the manufacturers claims are.

My Ford Focus doesn't have a Fuel Computer but my Fabia vRS had the same setup as paradigm where they were two consumption figures, both of which were user resettable :)

If I remember correctly, over ~3500miles my average was about 52MPG or thereabouts, which was inline with the combined figure. I now use Road Trip LE on my iPhone which you records each fill up. This gives an overall average, number of overall miles, last fill average for every fill up, plus number of miles covered, dates and current mileage at the time. I keep meaning to purchase the full version, highly recommended for non-fuel computer car owners :)

After 1780-ish miles since new, my Swift Sport is averaging 34.3mpg.

Manufacturer's quoted is 40.4 lol. I managed to get ~45 out of it once when running on fumes and at serious risk of running out of fuel on the A23. I coasted down every hill to save petrol and drove at 55mph!

Car in my (MB S430, 4.3 V8 auto), manufacturer quotes a combined cycle of 23MPG.

My long term average is actually sitting at over 25 though, long journeys are helping it. Overall i'd say its pretty realistic.

I've got two settings, both user resettable
One for the current trip (carries on if the car is stopped for less than two hours)
One for long term, which resets after around 1600 miles or 100 hours driving.

MPG is pretty accurate.

Near the manufacturers figure - nah. I do a miniscule mileage and a lot of short town journeys. Getting around 38mpg at the moment.

Average is 25.7mpg on the trip computer.
Manufacturer stated average is 32mpg.

32 is easily achievable but I drive the car like I stole it. All the time.

Just can't see the point in tiny engined cars with this sort of economy, the Mini One I have at the moment is on 29mpg. Great, its a 1.4 ffs
That's very low. I take it you have been ragging it? My mum's get's well over 30 even when being ragged.

Blimey, are you ragging it? I thought the little over 30 I get in the 146 was bad.

Isn't it time you took advantage of your circumstances and traded that Fabia in for an R32 or whatever it is VAG fans aspire to? :D

I walk to work nowadays, and we finally got a Van so the car sits at home in the garage most of the time. :-(

I'd be lying to say I haven't got the 5 year itch and looked into swapping it recently. R32s are out of budget. Thinking of a well looked after Golf Mk2 GTI 16V. Might go V6 instead, but would have to be pre 2001 to avoid silly-rate tax so a Bora 4Motion perhaps, or a Mondeo ST200 that a mate of a mate is selling.

That's pretty terrible :/ Even my Clio averages approx 35mpg a tank for a normal weeks driving
