Hello all

just in the process of fitting a battery cut-off on my classic car.....called a dis-car-nect, allows you turn off the supply under the bonnet. It states that you should fit to the negative supply but there ain't enough room to do so, I've looked at turning the battery round to allow me to do so but I'll have to source longer leads ':O(

Quick question.....can I fit it to the + instead or will this have any repercussions i.e. drain the battery or should it do the same job?

Ta in advance

You should switch the negative side because the body is earthed, hence it's still possible to create a short circuit anywhere between the battery and the switch if it's on the positive side, even when the switch is OFF.

it wouldnt have any power to do any damage anyway if there was a short, and if there was it would be causing you problems without the switch anyway.

the dis-car nect is attached dirrectly to the battery terminal so you shouldnt have any problems like that.

this is the discarnect on mine

The reason why they suggest the -ve terminal is simply that it's a fairly large chunk of exposed brass, which has more risk of creating a short of it contacts any exposed metalwork.
