Quick Conroe Q's

Just a quick Q or two, my Core2Extreme X6800 obviously came with the stock cooler. I'm assuming this isn;t much cop and I should get a better one - can anyone recommend one?
Don't mind paying that bit extra on the CPU cooling, most important part of the machine in my opinion, though since I use a lot of media, I'd like one that's quiet as possible, while cooling as well as poss (as my machine is on 24-7).

Second Q, and even more newbieish than the above, the Conroe is 1066MHz FSB - what speed RAM would I need? I've always been a AMD user until today, so always just got RAM to match the FSB (400MHz RAM to go with the 400FSB), but that does not seem to be the case here.
I do not plan to OC.

Thanks :)

XP/Sl-120
Syth Ninja
Tuniqu Tower

Any heatpipe 120mm cooler will do the job

I'm running OCZ XTC PC2-6400 at DR533 1:1!!! Divdeer the latter number by 8 gives what MHZ it will do at stock then there after you are overclocking it!!

About it really mucka!

I'd go for the Thermalright SI/XP 120 as it will cool the voltage regs according to Intels spec. The other 2 that have been suggested are great for the CPU, but only blow air from one side of the board to the other & do nothing to cool anything else.

After getting my conroe extreme the intel cooler you get with it is quite big and looks like it could do the business but if it can or not is another thing...

Looking at the SI/XP-120 (what's the diff. btw?), they don't state socket 775 compatibility (which I assume Conroe uses). 'course might just be a mistake on the page.

Intel cooler does look pretty large, would be interested to see what people think of it in terms of noise though.

As for RAM, G.Skill 2GB DDR2 LA PC2-5300 (2x1GB) CAS4 seems to be the stuff of choice for non-OC usage. I did assume I'd need DDR2 800, but the above is all I need?

If you're not overclocking PC2-5300 will be fine.

The intel stock cooler should be quite good for conroe, even with a moderate overclock. The processor is so much easier to cool than Pentium D 965 Extreme, and I believe intel are supplying the same cooler with the X6800 as they did with the 965.

The problem with Intel's stock coolers over the last year or so has always been the noise, absolutely unbearable when the fan is at full speed.

However, I noticed the fan on the heatsink packaged with the x6800 is a Sanyo rather than the usual Nidec model, so I assume it would be marginally quieter. Can't say for sure as I've decided to use a zalman 9500 ;)

Cool, cheers guys :)

So I'm looking at G.Skill 2GB DDR2 LA PC2-5300 RAM, and going with the scythe ninja for CPU cooler until I can know for sure the XP/SL-120 works on the socket LGA775 :)
