I have a intel Q6600 cpu and i have installed everest to have a mess around with the everest sidebar meter. I have just noticed that on the gadget and in the everest program it says my cpu is running at 1597.9mhz, 6x, 266mhz but is it not supposed to be 2400mhz, 9x, 266mhz.

This is known as Speedstep.

The motherboard will automatically lower the multiplier (and thus overall clock speed) and CPU voltage when the system isn't being taxed. This reduces the heat output of the chip, prolongs the life of the CPU, and keeps your footprint a little bit greener. When doing anything intensive (gaming, encoding etc), it will go back to full speed automatically. All in all, most people tend to keep it on, even with a heavy overclock. :)

Speedstep is on. Can be turned off in BIOS.
Lowers the speed of your CPU when not utilizing all of the power. When you do require the power it moves it back up to 2.4Ghz.

New thread about this every day >.<

Thanks for the quick answers, This is a new motherboard and i had nevers seen this happen before on my old motheboard. My old board must have not had this option so i'll keep it on.
