Hey chaps,

Real quick one.

I sold an item on Ebay for £15 or so which I immediately withdrew into my bank account via Paypal

He said he hasn't received it and raised a claim against me.

I just went to withdraw another £13 for another item I sold and I'm now in the minus with the £15 item now saying "payment received - held"

Could anyone please explain this to me? I posted the item to him ffs. Has it taken the £13 off me to cover the £15?

TA!

It hasn't as yet if it has been held. However, if you have lost the other claim then say goodbye to that £13.

If you have sent it with proof of postage then you should be able to claim back off Royal Mail.

The claim hasn't been settled yet - it's still between the seller and I. Ebay pick it up tomorrow.

It's just one claim. I sold two items. One for £15 (he claimed) and one for £13 tonight yet I'm in minus.

Did you not send it tracked

No, it was a cheap DVD boxset. Sent it 2nd class but got a receipt (not proof of postage)

Guessing this is equivalent to shooting myself in the foot? I have 100% feedback.

Well what were you expecting if it went missing the in the post? It does happen.

Should always get proof of postage.

You are -£2 right?

Provide refund quickly and hope the buyer understands and doesn't leave negative feedback.

Yea, I don't need a sarky response. I am asking what my options are from here.

I'm a tad confused how I'm in the minus yet the case hasn't even gone through ebay yet.

Well you have no options.

Provide the refund now and end the case asap to potentially avoid negative feedback.

You know that this is definitely the way Ebay will deal with it?

It currently says the below with regards to the transaction.

"The funds are not available while this transaction is being reviewed by eBay"

If you don't send recorded some people use that to their advantage and get a refund even if they receive the item. That's the risk you take too many wrong uns on there. Always send recorded.

Really? What low lifes. Guess I shouldn't expect any different.

Been done here haven't I - yes, I appreciate it's slightly my own fault but on items with a low value I'd rather send 1st / 2nd class and save the buyer a bit of cash.

Unfortunately, this one has screwed me. Just as well I won £50 on England winning tonight

No chance he is getting a refund. I will lose the £15 and then another £15 on top of that to refund him. Would rather get bad feedback.

Sorry but you're jumping to conclusions here, items go missing, it happens.

Whilst it could also be someone tricking you why reach the conclusion that it absolutely has to be a scam? It's your own fault for not getting proof of postage which is free. You could have paid a few pence more and had it signed for additional peace of mind but you didn't.

Apologies, my mistake. I do have proof of postage.I just didn't send it tracked.

With this in mind, will eBay put the money back into my paypal if I send them the proof?

If you have proof of postage and the item doesn't turn up after the Easter Break you'll need to take the proof of postage to Royal Mail and put in a claim form, this takes a few weeks iirc and in the mean time you'll have to refund the buyer.

You'll be out of pocket for a few weeks but you'll get your money back from Royal Mail in the end.

I have never ever had a item go missing when I send them, unrecorded or not.

I have once. Sent it RMSD and it just disappeared. I dropped it at the PO after the days post had been taken, so suspect it was left behind somewhere. While I could understand a delay, I don't see how it could disappear

Refunded via papyal and claimed from RM online, who paid out the stated value.

No because that is no guarantee it got delivered. Just that you posted it.

You need to refund the buyer and claim off Royal Mail.

Sending things not tracked through eBay, oh boy, we got a newbie

If someone on there sees an item arrive not requiring signature, it's a ticket to a free item.

Yes, always send anything you sell as tracked unless you can afford to lose your money.

Things do get lost in the post. I sold a dvd on ebay a few months a go which genuinely got lost. Fortunately i sent it signed for and the buyer was very decent and willing to wait the the timeframe that Royal Mail give you before making a claim. Still never turned up (tracking just kept saying "being processed through our delivery network") so I refunded the buyer and then claimed the money back from royal mail. I actually ended up better off than had it not got lost in the post as i got the full sale amount + the postage back.
