First of all is a Ford ka 2003 3dr standard 2003 a girls/grannys car is it that wrong if a 20 something guy drives it ?

Is 1700 GBP about right for a Ford ka 1.3 3dr with 80,000miles on the clock ?

I drive one... for insurance reasons. Saving up for something much more manly when my insurance premiums go down to an affordable level.

They're alright if that's the reason you're buying it. I wouldn't buy it if I could afford something much much better though.

If it's wrong for you to drive it, it's really really wrong for one of the 40 year old senior managers at work to drive one.

Check that all the door/boot locks work properly though. They're a common failure. I have to open mine from the passengers side.

Yeah it's a girls car but so is an MX5 and men drive that.

The Ka is a fun, good handling, lightweight and chuckable car.

Price seems about right though i'd be trying to get them down to £1500.

Did you really use the work chuckable in the same sentence as KA?;):D

When mine was alive I had great fun throwing it around corners. I felt a little seasick doing it but it was great. I also didn't care if it picked up and prangs or dents either (though it hasn't since i've had it).

It's just a great disposable car.

My mum used to have a red one and i did feel a bit of a dork driving it, she then replaced it with a dark blue one which i feel much more comfortable driving. Purely down to the colour.

I think everyone should have a go of driving one once in their lives, decent fun to be had if the suspension is fresh.

That said... surely you can pick up a similar age/mileage focus for £1700. Maybe a tad more boring but you'll have more stuff and more comfort and a better experience on the motorway

What's the world coming to someone cannot make their own choices based on percieved image and needs to ask the internet.

Seriously why do you care what you look like to other people in a ford ka?

Slow, rubbish, rusty, unrefined, noisey, gutless, horrible inside, horrible outside and absolutely no redeeming features at all.

Spend the money on a decent MK5 Fiesta, maybe even a Zetec-S (cheaper to insure and run than you think). There's no reason in this price bracket you should buy a KA over a Fiesta.

I drove one for three weeks.

Positives:

- Excellent handling
- Relatively quick

Negatives:

Interior is dull and plasticky. A a lot of metal on show. The glovebox is effectively a hole with a lid which comes completely out.

It's quite noisey.

The locks (the barrels I think?) break. It's extremely common. The door won't open from the outside untill you get it fixed.

No central locking (well the one I was driving didn't) which isn't a huge incovenience considering it's only got two doors, but still.

Had no rev-counter (I don't know if it's an optional extra). Which isn't a big deal in a 1.3, but it'd be nice to have one.

Try and get the price down. 80k if fairly high for a KA. The one I was driving had it's steering replaced, shocks replaced and few other things by 80k.

Yep, set foot in one and you instantly turn into a raging hom

Anyway, they're pretty horrible cars really. I used to get them as courtesy cars when the mondeo was in for a service, was a bit of fun chucking it around but that was probably the novelty of having a small car after the Mondeo. Get a fiesta or focus instead - the one you mentioned sounds quite expensive for what it is. High mileage too - who does more than 10k per year in a Ka?

I can't see why you'd get a KA over a Fiesta, unless you got a much better deal, but by the looks of things for 80,000 miles your spending way too much.

There's nothing wrong with a guy driving a KA, but if you have a feeling you wont like it then just don't buy it.

The Ka im talking about is the same colour just like this model with the grey plastic bumper is that the one you drive captain slick ?

Nah, mine is a Collection. Like this:

M-m-m-m-m-MEGAGAY. Although I have no wheels trims because they were all **** and cracked and I cba getting new ones.

The rev counter became standard when they replaced the Endura engine with the newer, more powerful Duratec one.

It's alright if you can't afford to run anything else, but only for the reasons TS7 posted. I drive mine everywhere like my hairs on fire.
