One of the pc's here at work could do with upgrading soon.
Can we simply buy another pc, from here or elsewhere and blonk the old hard drive in it and away we go?

Sorry I'm not quite sure what you mean by "blonk" because it could be blank or plonk but I'm assuming the latter. If you buy another PC and just try to move the hard drive from one to another the chances are that it won't boot or at the very least will require reactivation (for a Windows machine). If however you simply want to copy the data off the old hard drive onto a new hard drive then you should be able to do that no problem at all.

Thanks for replies. Yes i meant plonk not blonk (or blank!) :)

I tried putting the hard drive in a different machine, just to see if it works and as said it didnt boot.

So if i get a new pc, can i copy the entire content, including all programs etc. of the old drive onto the new one. If so, whats the best way to do this.

Thanks.

True Image does what it says on the box, it takes an image of the full disk, OS and all. Restoring this to the new PC will overwrite what's on the new disk and leave you in the same situation as you are now with a PC which won't boot.

You can transfer the files off the old disk onto a new PC simply by adding the old disk as a second drive into a new PC (either internally or in an external caddy) and copying them in the normal way with Explorer. The applications will probably need to be reinstalled from the original media.

Ok, so there's no way of copying the applications as well. I was hoping not to have to re-install everything!

Thanks for clarifying.
